Driver dies after car flips on Interstate 880 in Fremont

FREMONT — A car on a Bay Area freeway flipped over on Saturday, killing the driver and blocking three lanes for nearly an hour, the California Highway Patrol said. Authorities did not identify the person immediately Sunday, pending notification of relatives. Medics pronounced the person dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts. The crash happened about 6 p.m. on northbound Interstate 880 south of Decoto Road, CHP spokesperson Officer Kylie Musselman said via email early Sunday. Musselman said the driver was behind the wheel of a red Toyota Rav 4 that appeared to overturn after speeding. The driver did not wear a seat belt and was ejected during the crash, Musselman said. The CHP did not say whether they suspect drugs or alcohol to have been involved. In the aftermath, the far right three lanes of I-880 were blocked for about 45 minutes. The CHP opened the second-to-the-far-left lane at that point, but the two right lanes remained closed for more than an hour. Please check back for updates.

How Jung Hoo Lee is learning to patrol Oracle Park’s outfield

SAN FRANCISCO — Add roaming the majors’ most difficult outfield to the list of cultural, lingual and baseball adjustments Jung Hoo Lee is facing in his transition from Korea to the major leagues. In his second game at Oracle Park, the 25-year-old center fielder got an introduction to the unique natural elements that led Mike Yastrzemski, who knows this grass better than anyone, to distinguish the Giants’ waterfront ballpark to be “the hardest outfield to play.” With first pitch at 6:06 p.m. Saturday, the sun was still glaring behind home plate when Padres leadoff man Xander Bogaerts lifted a pop fly to shallow center field. It should have been a routine play, but Lee lost the ball in the sun from the moment it left Bogaerts’ bat, falling to the grass for a base hit. The misplay eventually led to all four runs in the Giants’ 4-0 loss to the Padres. Lee later approached Yastrzemski, who said he was “pretty beaten up about it,” but the Gold Glove finalist echoed what manager Bob Melvin said after the game. “I just told him, ‘Man, there’s nothing

Trump campaign says it raised $50.5 million at Florida fundraiser

By Kaia Hubbard, Fin Gómez, Jacob Rosen, Olivia Rinaldi April 7, 2024 / 1:42 PM EDT / CBS News Recap of Biden and Trump’s NYC visits Biden holds NYC fundraiser, Trump attends slain NYPD officer’s wake and more political stories 07:16 Washington — Former President Donald Trump’s campaign said it raised $50.5 million at a Saturday event in Florida, marking a massive haul as his campaign looks to catch up to the Biden campaign’s recent fundraising efforts and significant cash advantage. The record-breaking sum that the campaign reported raising at a Palm Beach, Florida fundraising dinner on Saturday far surpasses the amount brought in by a star-studded fundraiser for the Biden campaign last month, as the GOP touted the event as an indicator of party’s unity behind the former president.  In a joint statement, RNC Chairman Michael Whatley and co-chair Lara Trump said the “success” of Saturday’s event is “proving what we already know: Americans are fed up with Biden’s record of failure, from the open southern border and sky-high inflation to the migrant crime crisis that has made everyone less safe.” The funds raised
