What’s in Disney’s $5,000 Star Wars cocktail?

Not long ago at all and in a galaxy very, very close, Disney unveiled the newest menu item from the “Star Wars”-themed lounge on the new Disney Wish cruise ship. And it comes with a price tag that may break the Jar Jar banks. Disney is giving Splash Mountain a new name in 2024 The Kaiburr Crystal (named for an in-universe relic) is actually four drinks, according to Nexstar’s Scott Gustin, who was aboard the special sneak peek this week. The most mispronounced places in California

California has been a state or territory of three countries in the previous 200 years, and for thousands of years it has been the home of Native Americans, all of which has resulted in a mix of city, county and place names coming from different languages. KTLA sister station FOX40 asked its followers on Facebook what places in the Golden State people seem to mispronounce the most. Here are the names that were mentioned the most in the comments. Tuolumne Of Native origin, it is used in a county name as well as for the Tuolumne River. It might be tempting to pronounce the “n” in Tuolumne, but it’s actually silent and pronounced as too-aw-luh-mee. According to the county’s historical society, “Tuolumne is translated by some as a Me-Wuk word “Talmalamne” meaning a cluster of stone dwellings.” Camarillo The city of Camarillo got its name from the family who owned the ranch that eventually became the city. Camarillo is a Spanish name, so to pronounce it correctly you’d have to roll the “r”, but if not, just make sure to pronounce the two l’s as

Holiday getaway pushes US airport traffic to pandemic high

The Fourth of July holiday weekend is jamming U.S. airports with their biggest crowds since the pandemic began in 2020. About 2.49 million passengers went through security checkpoints at U.S. airports Friday, surpassing the previous pandemic-era record of 2.46 million reached earlier in the week, according to figures released Saturday by the Transportation Security Administration. The escalating numbers show leisure travelers aren’t being deterred from flying by rising fares, the ongoing spread of COVID-19 or worries about recurring flight delays and cancellations. Friday’s passenger volume marked a 13% increase from July 1 last year, which fell on the Thursday before Fourth of July. This year’s number of passengers going through U.S. airports also eclipsed the 2.35 million screened at security checkpoints on the Friday before the Fourth of July in 2019, but that was nearly a week ahead of Independence Day. In a more telling sign of how close U.S. air travel is reverting to pre-pandemic conditions, an average of 2.33 million passengers have passed through security checkpoints at domestic airports during the seven days ending July 1. That was close to the seven-day average of roughly

The center of California is a city you’ve likely never heard of, Census says

When you think of the heart of California, you may think of its political center, Sacramento. Or maybe you think of its biggest city, Los Angeles. Or maybe a central spot like Fresno. Surprisingly, the center of California’s population isn’t exactly close to any of these. Since the first census in 1790, the U.S. Census Bureau has been calculating the “center of population” in the country. This is a point where an imaginary, flat, weightless, and rigid map of the U.S. would balance perfectly if everyone were of identical weight. It is the average location of where people in the U.S. live, according to the Census Bureau. Data from the 2020 census found Hartville, Missouri, is the “heart” of America. Since 1980, Missouri towns have been the population centers but the first-ever center in 1790 was in Maryland, just east of Baltimore. In addition to calculating the center of population for the U.S., the Census Bureau is also able to calculate the “heart” of each state, including California. Based on the latest census, California’s center of population is located at 35°29’27.7″N 119°20’52.3″W. That lands in what appears to be
