Griffin said in a social media post that he’s “thankful for every single moment” of his career. He was the No. 1 overall pick by the Los Angeles Clippers out of Oklahoma in 2009. He missed his first season with a knee injury, but rebounded to earn the Rookie of the Year award in 2011, when he also won the All-Star Game dunk contest. Alongside Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan, Griffin’s high-flying plays rejuvenated the Clippers franchise and earned it the nickname “Lob City.” He was traded to the Detroit Pistons during the 2018 season as his ability to soar dwindled and injuries piled up. “Blake was a big part of the turnaround here,” said Tyronn Lue, the current Clippers coach who was an assistant on the staff early in Griffin’s LA career. “Blake was one of the most dynamic players we’ve seen in this

Warriors’ season ends unceremoniously with blowout loss to Kings in play-in

SACRAMENTO — Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson didn’t even get a chance to spend what might be their final moments in the same uniform on the court. In a blowout play-in loss to the Kings, the dynastic trio checked out together with 2:13 left in a game that was already decided. The three legends are used to playing deep into May and June. Instead, their season ended on April 16. The Warriors were healthier and well rested. Their four future Hall of Famers had exponentially more playoff experience than the young Kings. They finished the season strong, while Sacramento stumbled. But Thompson picked a bad time to play the worst game of his career. Andrew Wiggins, who had turned around his season, registered a minus-25 in 25 minutes. Steph Curry, who ended Sacramento’s season with 50 points last spring, grinded against double and triple teams to reach 22 points. And the Warriors’ much-improved defense — led by Green — let Keegan Murray unload eight 3-pointers for a game-high 32 points. “We just couldn’t stay with them,” Steve Kerr said postgame. “They dominated us

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. He now faces three murder charges for the deaths of Fernando Gonzales, Steven Rice, and Brandon Munoz. The men each died in separate shootings between 2020 and 2022. Prosecutors say Hammond was behind them all. Adam Schiff, Steve Garvey each raised more than $3 million for U.S. Senate campaigns since February

Republican Steve Garvey and Rep. Adam Schiff raised nearly equal amounts from mid-February to late March to help fund their battle for a California U.S. Senate seat, according to reports filed Monday with the Federal Election Commission. Schiff, D-Burbank, raised $3.51 million between Feb. 15 and March 31. Garvey, a former Major League baseball star, raised $3.39 million. Schiff, who polls show is leading Garvey, still has financial advantages. He had $4.8 million on hand on March 31, the end of the reporting period, while Garvey had $1.6 million. Schiff also reported no debt, while Garvey’s campaign owes about $373,000 for various campaign-related services. Schiff is also backed by Standing Strong, the SuperPAC that can raise and spend unlimited amounts of money to help elect him, and which has reported raising $10.1 million since the current election cycle began last year. Garvey’s supporters recently created their own SuperPAC, Strike Out Schiff., though the group reported no financial activity in its latest report. Schiff’s campaign, as well as Standing Strong, helped boost Garvey in the March 5 primary. So did Fairshake, a SuperPAC with ties to

Ex-SF Giants manager Gabe Kapler discusses life in Miami, future plans

MIAMI — With a few minutes left in the Marlins’ pregame batting practice Monday, a muscular figure strode behind the batting cage. Wearing a black Miami ballcap, a teal shirt with the two top buttons undone and white linen pants, that is where Gabe Kapler remained for the next hour as his former team took a turn in the cage. His successor, Bob Melvin, was one of the first Giants to approach him, and most of the rest of the players and staff he worked with took time out of their pregame work to dap up and catch up with their manager of the past four years. “I loved it,” Kapler said a day later, leaning against the railing of the third-base dugout before first pitch Tuesday. In a 10-minute conversation, that was all the former manager had to say about reuniting with the club he managed for four years, the second-half collapse that led to his ouster with three games remaining or his reaction to the decision. Kapler, 48, preferred to focus on the present and his new role as an assistant general manager

SF Giants’ bullpen backslides in loss to lowly Miami Marlins

MIAMI — The Giants’ relief corps, maligned for the season’s opening week, had started to turn things around on this road trip. That is, until Jordan Hicks exited his start Tuesday, handing off a tied game to Ryan Walker to begin the bottom of the sixth. The score didn’t stay even for long. Walker lived up to his last name, and Taylor Rogers wasn’t much more effective. The relief duo allowed the Marlins to score three runs in the sixth inning, which put the game out of reach for the Giants in a 6-3 loss in front of another sparse crowd at loanDepot Park. “We gave up some runs there, especially in the sixth,” manager Bob Melvin said. “Not Walk’s best day, but he’s been pretty reliable for us. Once it’s a tied game, we feel pretty good about bringing him in there.” Brought in to face the left-handed Luis Arraez with the bases loaded and one run already in, Rogers got ahead 0-1, then fired a 93-mph fastball. Arraez, a two-time batting champ, laced the pitch into left field, and Tim Anderson scored easily
