Electricians and construction contractors protest San Diego Symphony over outsourcing

SAN DIEGO (KUSI) – Angry electricians and construction trade workers and supporters made some noise tonight in front of the San Diego Symphony, calling out the company for hiring an out-of-town contractor instead of supporting local jobs. “We have 100 IBEW-569 electricians here that are all saying ‘shame on the Symphony for hiring an out-of-town contractor that is killing over 50 local jobs,’” says organizer Gretchen Newsom. “The Symphony should be investing in local communities by hiring local contractors and a local workforce to build the new Bayside Performance Arena out there on the bay.” The San Diego Symphony has not yet responded to the protests. This is a developing story and will be updated when more details have been confirmed. Categories: Local San Diego News
