Antioch man faces pimping charges in Vacaville

An Antioch man facing charges of pimping made a brief court appearance Wednesday.
Melvin C. Houston, 34, was arrested in the early morning hours of March 9 by Vacaville police in the parking lot of a hotel located in the 1000 block of Orange Drive.
Officers spotted a woman, later identified as Hevvin Lashari Laura Lea, 20, of Vallejo, rummaging through the trunk of a vehicle with Houston behind the steering wheel. Lea was then seen going into one of the hotel’s rooms. When apprehended by officers, Houston was seen counting cash, police said.
Eventually, about 30 minutes later, the woman came back to Houston’s vehicle, which allowed them to collect evidence from both individuals, which led them to believe Lea was working for Houston as a prostitute. Lea was subsequently arrested, but later offered resources from social services.
Houston was arrested and booked into Solano County Jail, where he remains with a bail amount of $200,000. He is due back in court at 8:30 a.m. today in Dept. 17.
