Menifee store owner happy for Powerball winner, but doesn’t really know him

One day after the winner of the $447 million Powerball drawing was announced, the man who runs the store says he is happy for the person — though he doesn’t really know him.
Matthew Alberre, whose family owns Marietta Liquor & Deli at 27985 Bradley Road in the Sun City area of Menifee where the winning ticket was purchased in June, said he did not know Jeff Lindsay. Lindsay was the person identified Wednesday, July 19, as turning in the matching ticket.
“I’m just happy for the Lindsay family and we wish them the best for their success,” Alberre said.
The Lindsay family has opted to take the lump sum payment of $279.1 million before taxes.
Since the store was publicized as having sold the huge ticket, Alberre said he didn’t know how much of an effect it had on overall business.
“We do see new faces for the lotto here now,” he said.
The Alberre family received $1 million from the state lottery for selling the ticket , the maximum reward.
Matthew Alberre said his family is still in the process of deciding what they are going to do with the money.
