Twitter edges up, Pandora retreats on mild day for Bay Area stocks

Bay Area stocks put in a ho-hum performance Thursday, with most local companies getting just a bit of attention from investors.
Twitter shares managed to rise 2 percent to close at $20.53. Despite Twitter’s efforts to crack down on abusive speech online, some questions have been raised about whether the social-networking company applies the same rules to President Donald Trump .
Mild gains also came from Advanced Micro Devices, up almost 2 percent to close at $13.80 a share; Nvidia, which rose 1.5 percent to close at $167.50 and Tesla, up 1.4 percent to end the day at $329.92.
Pandora Media was a notable decliner, as the internet radio company’s shares fell 3.2 percent to close at $9.14.
The tech-focused Nasdaq Composite Index ended the day up by almost 5 points at 6,390, while the blue chip Dow Jones Industrial Average rose nearly 29 points to 21,611.78 and the broad-based Standard & Poor’s 500 Index gave up less than 1 point to finish at 2,473.45.
