The so-called Mountain fire was reported at 3:25 p.m. near Altamont and Black Mountain roads, said Chief Fire Investigator Ryan Cronin of the Santa Clara County Fire Department.
The blaze, which burned 5 acres, was fully contained shortly after 4:30 p.m., Cronin said. No structures were damaged.
Cronin said the fire was sparked by a mower that was being used to cut brush in the preserve.
