Big wine weekend in Livermore Valley starts with food and pairing contest. See who won.

PLEASANTON — Some 600 people attended a food-and-wine pairing Thursday night for the kickoff of the Livermore Valley’s annual Taste of Terrior, a series of tours, meals and wine-related events from Thursday through Sunday.
The sold-out event featuring 20 gourmet food-and-wine pairings was held at the Casa Real events center in Pleasanton.
The Livermore Valley Wine Growers Association says a few tickets are still available for some of the Taste our Terrior events. For information, visit http://bit.ly/2vJ75ZW on the web.
A team of judges decided that the winners in the best classic pairing category were Nottingham Cellars for its 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauced BBQ and Spirits for its smoked brisket French dip layered with horseradish cream and chipotle blackberry sauce.
In the people’s choice awards voted on by attendees, the best white wine pairing was Occasio Winery for its 2015 Livermore Valley Chardonnay teamed up with Forno Vecchio’s seared scallops with candied bacon and cauliflower puree.
For the best red wine pairing, voters picked Wood Family Vineyards for its 2014 El Loco Rojo and First Street Alehouse’s Char siu taco with marinated pork wrapped in a tortilla with a honey sriracha.
