2 pedestrians hit – 1 killed — in separate crashes along busy Base Line in San Bernardino

One pedestrian was killed and another was hospitalized in two separate crashes less than two hours and about a mile apart along Base Line in San Bernardino on Monday night, police said.
A pedestrian was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver around 8:40 p.m. Monday near Base Line and Perris Hill Road, said San Bernardino police Sgt. John Cardillo. Paramedics were called to the scene and pronounced the person dead.
A description of the vehicle was not immediately available Tuesday morning.
About an hour and a half before the fatal traffic crash, another pedestrian was hospitalized after the person was struck by a vehicle in the 400 block of East Base Line, Cardillo said.
The pedestrian sustained significant head trauma, officials said. Initial information shows the driver in that incident remained at the scene.
Both crashes are under investigation. Authorities ask anyone with information on these cases to call Sgt. Jeff Harvey or Detective Devin Peck at 909-384-5791.
