San Jose’s first Irish Coffee competition set

What makes a great Irish coffee?
We’ll find out this week when  Five Points , the sister bar to the venerable O’Flaherty’s Irish Pub, hosts San Jose’s first Irish Coffee competition.
Five local coffee companies — Chromatic Coffee, Academic Coffee, Forager Coffee, Kick Back Coffee Roasters and Roy’s Station Coffee & Teas — will square off from 8 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, March 14.
The coffee itself (and any frou-frou touches) are likely to be the key to success as all competitors will be using sponsor Jameson Caskmates’ whiskey.
The winner’s Irish Coffee recipe will then be re-created on St. Patrick’s Day this Saturday for Five Points customers.

Irish whiskey was once on the verge of collapse. Now, it’s booming.

Members of the public are welcome to watch the competition, but here’s the rub: No Irish coffee will be served that night. While the top recipe is being determined, you’ll have to stay in the mood with whiskey or maybe some Bailey’s Irish Cream.
