Top 10 adventure vacation destinations

Whether it’s heli-skiing, bungee jumping or cavorting with sting rays, if you’re an extreme-sports lover of any kind, National Geographic has a vacation suggestion for you. The magazine’s editors recently compiled a list of the top 10 most adrenaline-fueled adventure destinations, places that make your heart beat faster from both the sheer thrill of the place and its awe-inspiring sights.
Some of these places are not unexpected. Bungee jumping began on the South Island of New Zealand, after all. If you’re going to throw yourself off a bridge with a cable knotted to your ankle, best do it at Kawarau Bridge in Queenstown, where the sport began. And if snorkeling and sea life are your passion, head for Grand Cayman for a sting-ray encounter.
But there are places on this list that most people never consider. Take the heathered moors, for example, of Northern Scotland and its Kyle — or Isle — of Bute which draw visitors with a heady mix of rugged trails, sandy beaches and grand 19th-century mansions. Like to sail? Head for Italy’s volcanic Aeolian Islands.
Here’s the list. Want to see more about each of these places? Head for  www.nationalgeographic.com/travel.
