Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff pledges $1M donation to March for Our Lives

OAKLAND — Salesforce founder and CEO Marc Benioff announced a $1 million pledge toward this month’s national anti-gun-violence March for Our Lives.
In a tweet Monday afternoon, Benioff said he was “[m]otivated to join the many who are passionate about the safety of all kids and I’ll give $1M to March For Our Lives. Together all of us can make children’s health and safety our number one priority. Join us and March on March 24th.”

Benioff, a highly visible donor to specific philanthropic causes and movements, has a net worth of nearly $5 billion as of December, according to Inside Philanthropy .

He has donated nearly $250 million to Bay Area hospitals and $35 million to Bay Area school systems, including $7 million to San Francisco public schools and $5 million to Oakland public schools in September, according to CNN .
A landing page  that Benioff linked to for the march’s site listed 689 march-related events, including 21 scheduled in the nine-county Bay Area.
Other celebrity donors to the rallies include George and Amal Clooney, Oprah Winfrey, and Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw. The Clooneys donated $500,000 in the names of their 8-month-old twins; the half-million-dollar donation was matched by both Winfrey, then Spielberg and his wife.
Silicon Valley investor Ron Conway, another active philanthropist, praised Benioff’s commitment in a tweet Monday.
