San Leandro teenager Teana Boston has passed her blind audition on “The Voice.”
Boston, who is only 16, belted out a smooth and confident cover of “Unfaithful” by Rihanna during Monday’s installment of the NBC singing competition. However, only Kelly Clarkson turned her red chair, so the Bay Area singer automatically wound up on Team Kelly.
‘The Voice’ alum Noah Mac debuts his first post-TV music
She’s the second Bay Area contestant to advance this season on the reality series. Earlier, Brett Hunter, 30, of Oakland, made it onto Blake Shelton’s team. Last season, Noah Mac of Dublin finished just outside the Top 4 finalists.
Boston, a junior at James Logan High School, has been enrolled in piano and vocal lessons since she was young. She performs at local events and has sung the National Anthem at A’s, Giants and Raiders games. She’s an honor student and active in her school’s Black Student Union, aimed to “empower, educate, tutor and uplift students of color.”
Boston now moves onto the show’s battle rounds, which begin March 19.
