Rancho Cucamonga parolee arrested after 50-mile chase from Chino Hills to Hawthorne

A Rancho Cucamonga man was arrested at the end of a 50-mile pursuit Thursday night, April 12, that began in Chino Hills and ended in Hawthorne, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said.
The driver, identified as Jacob Thomas Toy, 27, was in a car reported stolen in Fontana earlier in the day, a news release said. A warrant had been issued this month for Toy’s arrest, alleging he violated terms of his Post Release Community Supervision, San Bernardino County Superior Court records show.
Toy was apprehended when a California Highway Patrol unit spun out the Toyota Camry he was driving on the 405 Freeway at Rosecrans Avenue. Television images show a police K-9 leaping into the car through a shattered window. Officers then pulled the man from the car.
The pursuit began in the area of Peyton and Olympic View drives when deputies tried to pull over the car and he fled, the release said. The pursuit went through several cities. At one point, a CHP vehicle spun out the car, but Toy maneuvered the car around police vehicles and continued on.
Toy struck two law enforcement vehicles during the pursuit, the release said.
Toy was booked into West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga on suspicion of possession of stolen property, assault with a deadly weapon (the car) on a peace officer and felony evading. Bail was set at $100,000.
Toy in November was sentenced to 175 days in jail for violating PRCS. In January 2017, Toy was convicted of misdemeanor driving under the influence. In 2009, Toy was given a three-year sentence for carjacking that was suspended and he was instead ordered to serve three years’ probation. He also has convictions for burglary and possession of illegal drugs, records show.
