Torrance woman air rescued after suffering injuries while hiking on Mount Baldy

A 31-year-old Torrance woman was airlifted from the Cucamonga Peak Trail on Mount Baldy on Sunday after suffering a lower leg injury, authorities said.
About 12:17 p.m., the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a personal emergency beacon activation, which indicated the woman fell while hiking the trail and suffered a lower leg fracture, sheriff’s officials said in a release.
Using GPS coordinates from the locator beacon, Sheriff’s Air Rescue 07 responded to the location at the 7,500-level and located the victim.
A volunteer medic was lowered to the victim to assess her injuries. The medic then secured the woman into a rescue harness and she was hoisted up into the helicopter, followed by the medic, the release said.
She was flown to a nearby ambulance for further medical care, authorities said.
