Three girls compete in Cub Scout Pinewood Derby in Moreno Valley

In a first for Cub Scouting in the Inland Empire, three girls raced their cars in the annual Pinewood Derby.
They are Sadie Fletcher, 6, and Elizabeth Mazariegos, 5, both of Pack 1887 in Riverside, and Molly Anderson, 9, of Pack 1230 in Riverside. Molly is a Webelos Scout, a program for older Cub Scouts.
They are among the first girls to join Cub Scouts after the Boy Scouts of America opened membership to girls earlier this year.
The California Inland Empire Council’s Mount Rubidoux District, which covers communities from Riverside to Hemet, hosted the derby at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Moreno Valley on March 24. About 50 Cub Scouts raced their handmade cars for trophies.
