Coroner identifies man killed in Oakland hit-and-run

OAKLAND — A man killed early Thursday in East Oakland in a hit-and-run crash was identified by the coroner’s office Friday as Ahkenya Ragland Sr. The coroner’s office said Ragland was 46 but did not give a residence for him, although authorities had initially said it was Oakland.
Police said the car Ragland was in was broadsided by a stolen vehicle driven by a man who fled after the crash. The driver of the stolen car is still being sought.
Ragland was killed instantly and two other men were injured in the collision that happened about 2:30 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of 98th and Bancroft avenues.

Ragland was in the front seat of a 1983 Ford Mustang driven by a 24-year-old man that was traveling south on 98th and had the green light as it went into the intersection, authorities said. It was broadsided by a speeding 2014 Honda Civic going east on Bancroft that did not stop for a red light. The Mustang driver was hospitalized.
The driver of the Honda, which had been stolen out of San Francisco, fled the scene on foot before police arrived. A 29-year-old man who was a passenger in the Honda suffered a broken leg and was hospitalized, authorities said.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering up to $15,000 in reward money for information leading to the arrest of the driver who fled. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 510-777-8570 or Crime Stoppers at 510-777-8572.
