Trump jumps into CA primary, endorsing Cox

(KGTV) - President Donald Trump has entered California's gubernatorial race, endorsing one of the state's Republican candidates. President Trump Friday tweeted his support for Republican candidate John Cox, touting his stances on immigration and taxes. "California finally deserves a great Governor, one who understands borders, crime and lowering taxes. John Cox is the man - he’ll be the best Governor you’ve ever had. I fully endorse John Cox for Governor and look forward to working with him to Make California Great Again!" President Trump tweeted. Cox, a businessman from San Diego, has voiced support for ending the state's sanctuary cities policy and gas tax, and the president's tax policies. The Republican candidate said he was "deeply grateful" for the endorsement and looking forward to making "California great again." RELATED:

We're going to secure the border, empower California small businesses, lower taxes, and make our state affordable for everyone," Cox said. Trump's endorsement may be a blow to Republican Assemblyman Travis Allen, who's also vying for the GOP slot in the November election. Several Democratic candidates in the primary, including the June 5 odds-on favorite Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom. Cox has faced criticism for saying he voted for Libertarian Gary Johnson in the 2016 presidential race, but has also said he regrets that vote.
