Police arrested a Lodi man Saturday on allegations he stabbed another man in the face while they were driving over the Golden Gate Bridge.
Jose Plancarterueda, 21, was booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of attempted murder, mayhem and assault with a deadly weapon. The mayhem count refers to alleged dismemberment or disfigurement.
Bail is set at $500,000.
The incident occurred at about 11 p.m. Friday, according to the preliminary investigation by the California Highway Patrol. The alleged victim ended up at a hospital in Fairfield, and police interviewed him there.
The alleged victim identified Plancarterueda as the attacker, and police issued a regional alert for him and his car, said CHP Officer Andrew Barclay. Police spotted the car in Lodi early Saturday and detained Plancarterueda.
The CHP transferred him to the Marin jail. Barclay said CHP detectives were still investigating the incident and no additional details were available.
The CHP confiscated the car as evidence.
