Authorities identify man run over, killed in East Palo Alto

EAST PALO ALTO — A man run over and killed while sleeping in an East Palo Alto roadway last week has been identified by the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office as Roland T. Klause.
Klause, 47, was homeless, the coroner’s office said.

Officers found Klause’s body on the 2400 block of Pulgas Avenue just before 7 a.m. Thursday.
Klause had wrapped himself in towels and a plastic sheet and was sleeping on an abandoned mattress about 6:35 a.m. when a large truck pulled to the side of the road and ran over him, according to police.
Police said Klause died of his injuries at the scene.

As of late last week, the death was being investigated as traffic accident, according to police.
The East Palo Alto Police Department is asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about it to call or text 650-409-6792 or email a tip to epa@tipnow.org.
