A 63-year-old man was taken into custody over the weekend after authorities say he shot someone at a party just south of Riverside.
Richard Charles Clayton was booked into Cois M. Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta at 12:50 a.m. Sunday, May 20, on suspicion of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, Riverside County jail records show.
Bail was set at $1 million. Clayton was still in custody Tuesday.
The shooting happened about 4 p.m. Saturday in the 18300 block of Roberts Road in the Woodcrest neighborhood just outside city limits. The victim was shot by another person attending the party, sheriff’s Deputy Robyn Flores said. The victim had wounds that were not considered life threatening, Flores said. Clayton was arrested at the home.
“The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time as it is still an active investigation,” Flores said.
