Rene Morales’ body was found in an alley on the 700 block of South 2nd Street on May 18.
The death was deemed suspicious, and homicide detectives eventually determined the victim had been involved in a fight with Apodaca, who he knew, said Sgt. Enrique Garcia.
Cesar Anaya, who raised funds for Morales’ funeral, described Morales as witty and bubbly. Morales also had a young daughter “who meant everything to him,” Anaya said.
