My AP top-25 ballot: Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame and Michigan remain entrenched; UCF, Washington State and Texas move up

Highlights from the ballot …
Only five losses by the teams in last week’s edition, and three of the five were to other ranked teams:
Iowa State to Texas, Cincinnati to UCF and Syracuse to Notre Dame.
The lack of carnage was due, in part, to the light SEC schedule.
As a result, the only changes in the top 10 involved minor shuffling in the No. 7-10 positions, sparked by West Virginia’s loss to Oklahoma State.
The Mountaineers dropped six spots, to No. 13, while the likes of Oklahoma, Washington State, Texas and UCF inched up a rung or two.
From here, the top six are entrenched until they lose, their status based on results and the quality of competition faced.
No. 7 Oklahoma’s offense is as good as it gets, but the defense is flawed.
No. 8 Ohio State: Same situation.
No. 9 Washington State looks like a complete team, but the Pac-12 is filled with mediocrity, particularly in the South.
(The Cougars haven’t faced a top-25-caliber team since late September: Utah).
No. 10 Texas has three losses.
No. 11 UCF has a slew of impressive wins, but how good is the American?
For the moment, there’s little to suggest the six-team bloc of Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame, Michigan, Georgia and LSU should be broken apart at the top of the ballot.
