Police: Upland woman critically injured after random attack at her home

A 45-year-old woman was sent to the hospital in critical condition after the Upland Police Department said she was randomly attacked by a man trying to break into her house.
Upland Police Chief Darren Goodman said the attack happened on Sunday morning at around 11 a.m. The department received a call from a neighbor who reported seeing the woman being assaulted.
Officials said officers responded to the 1400 block of Arrow Highway in Upland.
“Officers arrived on-scene and found a man attacking her,” Goodman said. “Officers had to deploy Tasers to get him off of her.”
Goodman said officers suspect the man was trying to break into the woman’s house, was surprised when she came outside and attacked her.
Police identified the suspect as Armando Ramirez Jr, a 29-year-old transient man. He was arrested on suspicion of burglary, assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder. Officials didn’t immediately identify the weapon used in the attack.

The woman’s identity was not released, and she was sent to a local hospital in critical condition.
“This was a random attack,” Goodman said. “The thing that I can’t stress enough is this is an example of community awareness engagement. A neighbor heard and saw the attack, and called 911 immediately.”
