A man armed with a large knife who said he intended to kill a police officer was detained shortly after he arrived at Oakland International Airport early Sunday, according to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office. The man was confronted by airport deputies about 8:45 a.m. after he was seen looking inside sheriff's patrol vehicles just outside the airport terminal, the sheriff''s office said. Airport deputies were able to de-escalate the situation and took the man into custody without force, sheriff's officials said. The suspect later told deputies his intent was to kill a police officer.
