Explosion at Bay Point home kills five dogs, one cat

BAY POINT — A “honey oil” explosion Sunday killed five dogs and a cat and hospitalized two people, a fire official said.
The two injured people were expected to be OK but were treated for smoke inhalation and minor burns, spokesman Steve Hill of the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District said. A third person in the house escaped injury.
Fire crews responded to the 100 block of Sara Court, off Bella Vista Avenue, around 5:42 p.m. and knocked down the fire in about 20 minutes, Hill said.
Investigators said the cause of the explosion was a “honey oil,” a concentrated form of THC, the active ingredient in marijuana. It appears somebody tried to force butane through marijuana leaves to create the “honey oil,” Hill said.
