Man killed in San Bernardino police shooting yelled ‘shoot me’ at officers

San Bernardino police said a man died Monday morning after officers shot him during a call about a domestic disturbance.
The man, identified as 31-year-old Sokhom Hon, was found standing in the street outside a home carrying a weapon in a neighborhood near the intersection of 4th and Allen streets, police said on Twitter.
The officers who arrived at the scene approached Hon, then “attempted to calm him down and have him put the weapon down.”
They said he refused. The officers fired multiple times at him with a bean-bag shotgun, then a stun-gun, but both failed.
The man at first ran away after the officers used the less-lethal weapons, police said. But at some point during the encounter they said he charged at the officers. That’s when one of them fired at the man with a handgun, striking him at least once.
Hon was taken to a hospital, where he died at 12:25 a.m. on Monday.

Apparent bystander video of the incident captured some of what happened right before shots were fired. In the video, someone can be heard yelling to “get away.” Hon then yells at officers “shoot me,” before three shots from the bean-bag gun are heard, according to San Bernardino police spokeswoman Sadie Albers.
None of the shots fired from the officer’s sidearm are heard in the video, Albers said.
Details on what first drew police to the scene were not immediately available. Police only said that the call was about a domestic disturbance incident involving a weapon.
Police have not said what Hon was armed with, but Albers said a weapon was found at the scene.
