Lake Elsinore man arrested on suspicion of trying to kidnap two children from a park

A man was arrested Monday morning on suspicion of trying to kidnap children from a park in Lake Elsinore.
Marcus DeWitt, a 29-year-old Lake Elsinore man and registered sex offender, allegedly tried to kidnap two children from the Rosetta Canyon Sports Park at around 11:30 a.m., according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

The Sheriff’s Department said DeWitt allegedly tried to grab a 3-year-old boy by the arm and pull him out of a play place, but was unsuccessful. Authorities said DeWitt then picked up a 4-year-old boy and tried to leave the park with him.
“The victim’s parents and other family members saw the abduction, were able to catch DeWitt and wrestle the boy away from him,” a Sheriff’s Department statement said. “DeWitt attempted to leave the area, but was subdued by a member of the boy’s family.”
Additional people at the park detained DeWitt until deputies arrived and arrested him. He was booked into the Cois Byrd Detention center.
Authorities said no children were hurt during the incident.
