San Diego woman sentenced 13 years in prison for car theft kidnapping



SAN DIEGO(KUSI) – A woman who stole a car with two children inside and drove to the U.S.- Mexico border was sentenced to 13 years behind bars.
Police say 27-year-old Leslie Esparanza Saenz stole the car while the driver was inside a store.
8-year-old Malayha Wheatly was in the back seat and called 911 on her cell phone.
Authorities spotted the car at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, arrested Saenz, and returned the children to their father unharmed.
Wheatly was honored for her bravery this weekend at an event for young heroes.
