Former All-Pro LB Thomas Davis set to sign with Chargers

The Chargers are addressing their linebacker needs by adding a player with more than 1,000 combined tackles.
Three-time Pro Bowler Thomas Davis plans to sign with the Chargers, according to ESPN. The former Carolina Panther confirmed the report with a tweet Tuesday morning.
“Very happy that I’m going to be able to showcase my talents for the LA Chargers,” Davis tweeted. “Long way from home, but I’m extremely excited about this opportunity.”
Davis can’t officially sign with the Chargers until the NFL’s “new year” opens at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
The Chargers’ linebackers were ravaged by injuries last season, and it’s no surprise the team made the position a priority to start free agency. Last week, they re-signed Denzel Perryman to a two-year extension.
Thomas recorded a combined 1,111 tackles in 14 seasons with the Panthers and was named First-Team All-Pro in 2015. The Chargers will also get an instant boost in leadership with Davis, who was named Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year in 2014.
