Athletes of the Week: Top Bay Area performers

Peninsula/South Bay
Dean Casey, Palo Alto
Sport: Baseball
Class: Junior
Position: Pitcher
The 6-foot, 165-pound right-hander tossed a no-hitter on March 5 in a 1-0 victory against Sacred Heart Prep. The junior walked one and struck out five to improve to 2-0 on the season after the Vikings scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh.
Avery Lee, Menlo School
Sport: Basketball
Class: Sophomore
Position: Point guard
To help secure the first state title in girls basketball for the Knights since a three-peat in Division V from 1989-91, the sophomore nearly recorded a triple double with 15 points, nine assists and eight rebounds during a 70-63 victory over Rolling Hills Prep in the Division II final at Golden 1 Center in Sacramento.

East Bay
Emmanuel Callas, Campolindo 
Sport: Basketball
Class: Sophomore
Position: Small forward
The 6-foot-4 Callas scored 19 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the Cougars’ 55-40 victory over Colony of Ontario in the Division II state championship game. He also had nine points, eight rebounds and three assists in Campolindo’s 59-38 win over Serra in the Northern California regional championship game.
Stephanie Okowi, Oakland Tech
Sport: Basketball
Class: Junior
Position: Forward
The 6-foot Okowi set a Division IV girls state championship record with 24 rebounds – one shy of the record for all divisions – and also scored 16 points and blocked seven shots in a dominating performance for Tech in a 55-27 victory over Northview-Covina. She also produced 20 points in a 59-46 victory over Menlo-Atherton in the NorCal Division IV championship game.
