There’s ‘A Playboy Exhibition’ opening at the Beverly Center (and it’s for PG audiences)

There’s a new exhibition at the Beverly Center that celebrates 65 years of Playboy history, but it’s not what you think.
“Freedom is Key: A Playboy Exhibition,” curated for a PG audience by Playboy Enterprises and Circle Exhibits, opens the archives for a closer look at how the late Hugh Hefner ‘s men’s magazine, which over time developed into a media and lifestyle brand, saw itself as a force for social progress and an advocate for free speech, civil rights, and gender equality.
As well as, you know, a steady source for risque photographs.
In the 5,000-square-foot show, visitors of all ages encounter rare and never-before-seen photos and other artifacts. They include magazine profiles with civil rights luminaries such as Martin Luther King, Jr., boundary-pushing covers and a display that illustrates the evolution of the Playboy Bunny costume.
Jared Dougherty, president of licensing and joint ventures at Playboy Enterprises, called the exhibit “a powerful and informative look” that’s equally playful.

Visitors to the exhibit are encouraged to capture the experience with a photo on the Playboy Club stage, behind the editor’s desk, and on the magazine’s cover.
“We think audiences are not only going to have fun, but we hope they’ll walk away with a new appreciation for the role Playboy has played in so many important cultural moments over the years,” Dougherty said.
