North Valley Community Foundation awards $120,000 in Camp Fire grants

CHICO — The North Valley Community Foundation awarded $120,000 in grants on Tuesday to several schools and groups aiding in Camp Fire relief efforts.
The foundation has now released $2,719,684 in total in Camp Fire Relief Fund grants.
Recipients of the $120,000 in grants awarded this week are:

North Valley Animal Disaster Group ($25,000): To help fund a communications vehicle to be used for animal rescue team communication in mountainous areas.
Thrive Homeschool Program, on behalf of Camp Wild Heart ($25,000): To fund a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) day camp for 50 kids for up to 11 days.
Pine Ridge Elementary School, Paradise ($20,000): For additional accommodations “for a special-needs education environment.”
Social Good Fund, on behalf of Empower Me Art ($15,000): To offer expressive art workshops to “help bring normality” to the affected communities.
Chico Art Center and Celebration of People Inc., on behalf of Butte County Art of Wheels ($15,000): To fund a series of portable murals for each school displaced by the fire.
Neal Dow School ($7,425): To hire Assist Team Sports “for a structured and safe recess.”
Ponderosa Elementary School ($5,145): To fund materials for a functional life skills class, to be used for the care and education of students with special needs.
Report for America ($6,760): To cover 25 percent of the cost to place a Report for America journalist in the Chico Enterprise-Record newsroom to report on Butte County wildfire news for one year. Report for America covers half of the cost, while the newspaper covers a quarter and the final quarter is covered by a local funding partner.
