Man dead after his vehicle hits a sign near Beaumont

CHERRY VALLEY — A driver was pronounced dead Wednesday afternoon after the vehicle he was driving struck a sign in the unincorporated Cherry Valley area near Beaumont.
The crash was reported about 5 p.m. on state Route 79, also called Beaumont Avenue at that location, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Efforts to revive the unidentified driver, whose age was not immediately available, were unsuccessful and coroner’s personnel were summoned to the scene, according to the CHP.
It was not immediately clear if the driver died as a result of the crash or if he suffered a medical emergency before his vehicle hit the sign.
