Chico police arrest suspected robber at Thursday Night Market

CHICO — A suspected robber ran through downtown Chico during Thursday Night Market with officers in pursuit before he was tackled at City Plaza and arrested, according to police.
Chico police said the suspect, 20-year-old Jehvon Castillo III, tried to rob a person of marijuana at Children’s Playground about 6:20 p.m. Thursday before assaulting another person and fleeing the area, police said.
After police spotted Castillo near the park, he allegedly ran from officers, leading them on a chase in and around the downtown area, police said. Castillo was tackled by onlookers as he tried to cross City Plaza, allowing police to catch up and arrest him.
Police said they learned Castillo allegedly assaulted a male victim in an effort to rob the person of legally possessed marijuana. Castillo then allegedly assaulted at least one other person.
Anyone who witnessed the robbery but wasn’t contacted by police is asked to call 897-4900.
