Eastridge to BART light rail
Re: “ BART regional connector will strengthen Bay Area ” (Mercurynews.com, Opinion section, May 17):
Manuel Pastor’s opinion on Eastridge to BART light rail needs a reply.
Why is there a debate? Because taxpayers want efficiency. Its cost is estimated at $453 million for 2.4 miles. The Almaden Line light rail is being replaced by bus service. And buses could connect Eastridge to BART.

Pastor asks us to imagine small businesses connecting with their suppliers. No one is going to bring 50 pound bags of rice on BART or light rail or bus. Plumbers need a truck. And connections with suppliers are made by phone and internet.
