Watch: Klay Thompson’s sad face will make you sad too

Sure, they make gobs of cash for playing a kids game and will never have the problem most of us do scratching it out in the Bay Area real estate market.
But watching Warriors guard Klay Thompson learn that he won’t be eligible for the NBA’s “supermax” contract this offseason — and the extra $30 million it would be worth — is kind of painful. ( Go here for more on what a supermax — officially known as the “Designated Veteran Player Extension” — is all about, and how it will affect the team’s free-agent negotiations with Thompson this summer.)
Because Thompson didn’t make the All-NBA team that was announced Thursday, he is not eligible for the same deal his Splash Brother teammate Stephen Curry got two summers ago. Or that James Harden, Russell Westbrook and John Wall have gotten previously.
Or that Giannis Antetokounmpo, Damian Lillard and Kemba Walker will now be able to get this offseason after making that vaunted team. (According to a report by Yahoo’s Chris Haynes, the Oakland native Lillard will be offered a four-year supermax extension worth around $191 million this summer.)
Speaking of Walker, Thompson looked especially salty when his name was mentioned.
“It is what it is,” he said with a shake of the head and clear dissatisfaction on his face.
Watch it for yourself here:

Klay Thompson learns he didn’t make All-NBA (“Oh I didn’t?”) and is clearly a little ticked (it affects his next contract): “When you go to five straight Finals, it takes more than a couple All-NBA guys…Do I think there are that many guards better than me? No.” pic.twitter.com/bW5DiBavo1
