Suspect arrested on arson charge in fire near San Jose City Hall

A fire that forced residents from at least two homes Thursday morning just a couple of blocks from San Jose City Hall may have been intentionally started.
San Jose police arrested 61-year-old Brent Barnewolt on Thursday evening shortly after 8 p.m. on N. 6th Street and booked him into Santa Clara County Jail on felony arson charges, said Officer Gina Tepoorten.
Shortly after 11:30 a.m. that day, firefighters responded to reports of a house on fire in the 100 block of N. 6th Street. While no injuries were reported, eight people and at least one dog were displaced from two homes.

The San Jose Fire Department is investigating the incident. No additional information was immediately available.
