49ers Shanahan explains, revisits Super Bowl collapse with Falcons

SANTA CLARA — Kyle Shanahan’s Super Bowl past is not haunting him, “to tell you the truth,” he said Monday. He hasn’t thought “much at all” the past three years about his much-debated, Super Bowl play calling as the Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator. After all, he’s been consumed since then resurrecting the 49ers and leading them into this season’s Super Bowl. SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA – JANUARY 19: San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan holds up the NFC Championship trophy after his team defeated the Green Bay Packers 37-20 at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2020. (Randy Vazquez / Bay Area News Group) With nearly two weeks to build hype and answer reporters’ questions ahead of Super Bowl LIV with the Kansas City Chiefs, Shanahan is astute enough to know that his last trip will be scrutinized, criticized and analyzed. He still shrugs off critics who simplified the 2016 Falcons’ collapse by saying he should have run the ball more to protect a 28-3 lead. “The whole narrative of, ‘If I just would have ran it, we would have won,’ I know that wasn’t…

Super Bowl: Ex-49er Frank Gore shows he’s still in their corner

Frank Gore hasn’t played with the 49ers in five years but the beloved running back is among San Francisco’s biggest supporters as it returns to the Super Bowl for the first time in seven years. Gore, a fan favorite who was part of the 49ers’ last Super Bowl team, used social media to show his support for former teammate Joe Staley, the only remaining player on the 49ers’ active roster from the heartbreaking 34-31 loss to the Ravens in New Orleans in 2013. “Could not be happier for my guy @jstaley74 and @49ers,” Gore tweeted Monday, a day after the 49ers beat the Packers 37-20 in the NFC Championship. “Back to the Super Bowl! Bring that Chip back to the Bay!!” Gore’s tweet was in response to Staley’s, which read: “Happy to be in this position. One more. Can’t wait to get started. Thanks for all the support. Love this team.” Could not be happier for my guy @jstaley74 and @49ers Back to the Super Bowl! Bring that Chip back to the Bay!! — Frank Gore (@frankgore) January 20, 2020 The 36-year-old Gore, who…

49ers unveil Super Bowl fan travel packages to Miami; other flight and hotel options available

If you’ve got $9,000 to spare, the 49ers have a deal for you. The team has released its Super Bowl travel packages, several of which include airfare to Miami for the Niners’ showdown with the Kansas City Chiefs. Packages including Super Bowl tickets start at $6,765 for the land-only option that’ll get you three nights at the Miami Airport Mariott, plus a ticket to the game and entrance to the pregame party at Hard Rock Stadium and roundtrip gameday transportation. That price is for those booking four people per room — the rates go up if fewer people are staying in a given room. The 49ers also have more expensive options for four-night stays and upgraded hotel packages, as well as cheaper choices for those who just want to go to Miami without getting a ticket. You can find them all on the team’s website. If you choose to build your own package, you’ll want to move fast. The NFL is selling Super Bowl tickets starting at $4,462.50 for upper-deck seats. According to secondary ticket marketplace TickPick Monday morning, the average price per ticket was…

49ers Coleman not ruled out of Super Bowl despite dislocated shoulder

SANTA CLARA — Coach Kyle Shanahan is not ruling out Tevin Coleman for Super Bowl LIV despite losing the starting running back to a dislocated shoulder in Sunday’s NFC Championship Game. “I expect him to have a chance to play,” coach Kyle Shanahan said. “Don’t hold me to that until we get more back from imaging.” Coleman underwent an MRI on his right shoulder. Although Shanahan did not yet have the results, he did not consider it an injury requiring surgery but rather a week’s rest if the shoulder is put back into place. The 49ers will face the Kansas City Chiefs on Feb. 2 for the Lombardi Trophy in Miami Gardens, Fla. Coleman’s exit in Sunday’s 37-20 win over the Green Bay Packers did not derail a historic night by the 49ers’ rushing attack. Raheem Mostert ran for a franchise-record 220 yards and scored four touchdowns, the first player in NFL playoff history to score that many and also rush for over 200 yards. Coleman had six carries for 21 yards before getting hurt and carted off 9 minutes before halftime. He was coming…

France’s Macron tells global CEOs: ‘We’re open for business’

France’s president is taking on the role of salesman in chief for his strike-battered country. Emmanuel Macron used the splendor of the Palace of Versailles to woo international business leaders on Monday, insisting that his reforms are attracting investors despite six weeks of crippling protests and walkouts over his plan to overhaul the retirement system. Driving home the message that the eurozone’s second-largest economy remains open for business, Macron’s government announced a 2 billion-euro ($2.2 billion) contract for the French shipyard of Saint-Nazaire on the Atlantic coast. It will build two cruise ships for the company MSC, representing some 2,400 jobs over three years. MSC confirmed plans to build other ships in France for another 4 billion euros ($4.4 billion). “Good news doesn’t arrive out of nowhere. It comes because we are implementing reforms, because our country is moving, mobilizing,” Macron said. “I know that our heads are being filled with bad news and that we’re led to believe that everything is going to explode. But it’s not true.” Macron delivered those comments to workers at a plant of British-Swedish pharmaceuticals company Astrazeneca in the…

Joe Montana’s Tweet About His Connection To Both Super Bowl Teams Wins The Internet

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – The great Joe Montana might find it hard to decide which team to cheer for during Super Bowl LIV. On Monday, the four-time Super Bowl champion and three-time Super Bowl MVP tweeted a photo of the uniforms he wore while playing on the 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs along with caption: “You heard from me first. I GUARANTEE my team will win the SUPER BOWL!!” Although his throwing arm may not be what it used to be, his sense of humor is still going strong. Montana played with the 49ers from 1979 to 1992 and the Chiefs from 1993 to 1994. You heard from me first.
