Board To Approve Contracts For Promoting Film Production Countywide

The Board of Supervisors is slated Tuesday to approve $150,000 in allocations to support initiatives that promote on-location movie shoots throughout Riverside County. The county Office of Economic Development is seeking the six-figure appropriation to fund activities by Rancho Mirage-based Visit Greater Palm Springs and Riverside-based Inland Empire Film Services that spotlight the various locations available for production houses to use. “The positive economic benefit that a film production has the potential to bring to existing Riverside County businesses can be substantial,” according to an OED statement posted to the board’s agenda for Tuesday. “When a film production chooses a location in Riverside County, the production crew and talent stay in local hotels, eat at local dining establishments and use various other local services. Additionally, production companies typically hire local actors for background or extra work.” With the board’s approval, the OED will enter into professional services agreements with the two entities, effective from now to June 30, 2026. Visit Greater Palm Springs would be responsible for organizing at least two film location scout familiarization tours encompassing the entire Coachella Valley and parts farther east

By Angelica Leicht Edited By Matt Richardson April 8, 2024 / 2:02 PM EDT / CBS News You may not need to pay out of pocket for the down payment on your second home.  Getty Images For many, the idea of purchasing a second home , whether as a vacation getaway, investment property or future retirement residence, is a tantalizing prospect. However, the down payment typically required to secure that dream property can be a major stumbling block, preventing would-be buyers from moving forward. After all, the optimal down payment on a home is typically 20% of the purchase price. By putting at least that much down on a home, you can avoid paying for private mortgage insurance (PMI) . And, borrowing requirements are typically more stringent on a second home, so having the money for a large down payment can make it easier to qualify for a mortgage loan . That said, you don’t always have to have the down payment money on hand

What’s the cloud forecast for the solar eclipse in Los Angeles?

(Carlin Stiehl / For The Times) April 8, 2024 10:06 AM PT Following a series of storms rolling through Southern California over the last few weeks, the skies are expected to be mostly clear Monday just in time to give Angelenos an unobstructed view of the solar eclipse. There are only expected to be a few small clouds in the Los Angeles area near the eastern San Gabriel Mountains, but even hikers on those peaks will still be able to catch the eclipse, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Kristan Lund. “It should be pretty clear,” she said. “People should have unblocked viewing of the solar eclipse.” According to calculations by NASA, areas to the south and east of Los Angeles will see about 50% obscuration — the moon shrouding half of the sun — while much of the rest of the state will see around 25%. A total solar eclipse won’t be visible in this area again until 2044. L.A. is expected to see 48.6% obscuration around 11:12 a.m. A weather pattern that has sent a series of storms over California, pushed Los Angeles
