Tesla recalls nearly 4,000 Cybertrucks due to faulty accelerator pedal

Nearly 4,000 Tesla Cybertrucks are being recalled after only five months on the market by a federal auto safety agency due to a faulty accelerator pedal that can increase the risk of accidents, the company announced Friday. The highly anticipated release of Elon Musk’s stainless-steel-clad electric pickup started last year in November, four years after it was unveiled amid much fanfare and a botched demonstration of its shatter-resistant windows. Tesla has agreed to fix an accelerator pad on the trucks that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says can get stuck. When high force is applied to the pad on the accelerator pedal, the pad may dislodge, or come lose, causing the pedal to become trapped in the interior trim, according to the traffic safety agency’s report. Tesla was first made aware of the issue March 31. The recall includes the pickups that were manufactured from Nov. 13, 2023, to April 2024. Tesla will replace or rework the accelerator pedal at no charge to the customer. As of April 15, the report states that Tesla is not aware of any collisions, injuries or deaths relating

Disneyland’s gas-powered Autopia vehicles will be gone by 2026

Autopia’s gas-powered cars will be replaced with electric vehicles at Disneyland come 2026. The “Happiest Place on Earth” shared the news with the Los Angeles Times, who first reported the story. Earlier this month, Disneyland shared that Autopia, a gas-powered attraction located within Tomorrowland, would be electrified, but it stopped short of sharing when the switch would occur. Disneyland clears major hurdle in $1.9B expansion plans After the news broke, various electric vehicle activists launched a campaign to pressure Disney to commit to EVs — not hybrids — and to phase out gasoline within two years. On Friday, Disney announced they are planning to do just that. In a statement to the L.A. Times, a Disney spokesperson shared that electrification “means fully electric — it does not mean hybrid or any other version of a gasoline combustion engine.” The statement also shared that within the next 30 months, the park will do away with the current engines used in the Autopia vehicles. That means by fall 2026, Disneyland guests will be able to experience an updated version of the famed attraction. Still, Disney didn’t share

By Angelica Leicht Edited By Matt Richardson April 19, 2024 / 2:08 PM EDT / CBS News Gold prices are climbing right now, so if you’re going to buy in, it’s important to try and find the best prices possible. Getty Images Gold has long been regarded as a safe-haven investment  and in times of economic uncertainty or market volatility, investors tend to flock to this precious metal as a hedge against inflation and a store of value . Those benefits are a large part of why we’ve witnessed a surge in gold prices recently, with the precious metal hitting a number of new price milestones along the way.  For example, the price of gold has increased substantially over the last few weeks, climbing from under $2,100 per ounce in early March to today’s price of $2,379.76. That marks a 13% increase in a short period — and given today’s usual economic environment, the upward trend may continue , at least for the near future.

Music Tonight: Friday, April 19

I like it when a new group I haven’t heard before drops a line to let me know about an upcoming gig because I am given the chance to see what the music makers (and the dreamers of dreams, per Roald Dahl writing as Willy Wonka quoting the poet Arthur O’Shaugnessy) are up to. But things really line up and start sparking and twitching for me with the holy amperage of life when I actually love the music they send. I got treated to just that sort of galvanic shock this week when Liz, aka Trash Panda, from the new Eureka duo Hermit Crab sent me the goods: a link to their latest work, The Earth is Visible from Space. Dear lord of the deadly glowing seas, what a beautiful, stuttering mess of sputtering beats, all chopping through a tideline of battered shoreline debris and foamy toxic unguents. Samples, beats, sax, voices, all funk-scuttling over an ambient mapped fallout zone of music, land-mining Mother Nature with barbs of exploded pop culture and crooning about the mess. This trash is a blast and I love it.

Surprise: Taylor Swift’s ‘Tortured Poets Department’ is a double album, ‘The Anthology’

Seems Taylor Swift has been one busy girl. And overnight she dropped the entirety of that effort, turning “The Tortured Poets Department” into a double album release and tacking “The Anthology” onto the title. “It’s a 2am surprise,” she wrote on Instagram at 11 p.m. “The Tortured Poets Department is a secret DOUBLE album. ✌️ I’d written so much tortured poetry in the past 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here’s the second installment of TTPD: The Anthology. 15 extra songs. And now the story isn’t mine anymore… it’s all yours.” We’ve always known T-Swift was a writer — now we know she’s the kind of writer who doesn’t want anything cut from her story. Swift has been teasing the release of her latest creative bundle since winning the Grammy for album of the year for “Midnights.” It was her fourth AOTY victory, notching hardware for “Midnights” doing the same with “Folklore” in 2021, “1989” in 2016 and “Fearless” in 2010. She also surpassed Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon‘s Grammy honors with her fourth win in that category;

Tesla recalls all Cybertrucks due to unintended acceleration

Tesla is recalling its Cybertruck to fix accelerator pedals that could stick and cause vehicles to accelerate unintentionally. In the affected vehicles, a pad attached to the pedal may dislodge and become trapped by interior trim, preventing it from being released once pressed, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). And it’s all because of soap. Soap was used in an “unapproved” manner as a lubricant to aid in attaching the pad to the accelerator pedal during assembly. Residual soap makes it easier for the pad to slide off the pedal and lodge in interior trim. 2025 Tesla Cybertruck – Courtesy of Tesla, Inc. The recall includes 3,878 vehicles, all of which are thought to have the defect. Affected vehicles were manufactured between November 13, 2023, and April 4, 2024, likely representing most if not all Cybertrucks delivered to customers so far. Tesla will “replace or rework” the accelerator-pedal assembly free of charge to prevent this issue. In the meantime, the NHTSA notes that in cases of unintended acceleration, continuous application of the brake pedal “will bring the vehicle to a stop as

5 ways to add joy into your meals

By Andrea Kane | CNN In this season of the podcast Chasing Life With Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN’s chief medical correspondent has explored the topic of weight: what it really tells you about your health, why it’s so hard to lose, how the new diet drugs work and its links to menopause (you can listen to the episodes here). Whether you are happy with your size or not, whether you follow a special diet or eat what you want when you want, the basic fact of life — unavoidable, inescapable, non-negotiable — is that we all have to eat. If we are fortunate, it’s usually up to five times a day, every day. How you choose to nourish yourself can make a big difference in how you feel, not only in your body, but about yourself and the world around you. “I had this babysitter who was a chronic dieter,” Dr. Linda Shiue, an internal medicine physician and trained chef, told Gupta on the podcast recently. “She would eat this colorless, aroma-less food and she was sad all the time.” That is not Shiue’s style. She is the

Which boyfriend(s) is Taylor Swift’s new double album ‘Tortured Poets Department’ about?

By Lisa Respers France | CNN One thing about Taylor Swift is she will rip her own heart open and spill the blood in the form of her song lyrics. Welcome to “The Tortured Poets Department.” Her latest music continues Swift’s tradition of sharing insight about her feelings and relationships in her songs. The double album seems to splill quite a bit of tea, and the Swifties can’t drink it fast enough. Let’s take a look at a few of the songs and who her diehard-fan base has determined they are about. The title track could easily be thought to be about British actor Joe Alwyn, whom Swift quietly dated before splitting after six years in early 2023. That’s because Alwyn and his friends – fellow actors Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott – shared have previously shared their group chat is titled, “Tortured Man Club.” Instead it looks like the song may be about The 1975 band frontman Matt Healy, whom Swift was first linked with in 2014 and then later, briefly, after her split from Alwyn. Clues include the opening in which Swift sings

Tesla recalls nearly 3,900 Cybertrucks to repair faulty accelerator pedals

By Craig Trudell | Bloomberg Tesla recalled 3,878 Cybertruck pickups to rework or replace accelerator pedals that can dislodge and cause the vehicle to unintentionally accelerate, increasing risk of a crash. The carmaker received notice of two customer claims related to the issue, according to a recall report submitted to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The company said that when high force is applied to the Cybertruck’s accelerator, the pedal may dislodge and become trapped by interior trim. Tesla will fix the accelerator pedals free of charge. The company’s shares traded down as much as 2.3% before the start of regular trading Friday and have slumped 40% this year. The recall provides a first glimpse of how many Cybertrucks have been sold since Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk handed over the first pickups to customers in November. Tesla has yet to break out deliveries for the model in its quarterly production and deliveries reports. Musk has estimated it will take 12 to 18 months for Tesla to assemble stainless steel-clad Cybertrucks in high volume. He’s cautioned that the company is unlikely to reach
