We’re all saying Daniel Craig’s name wrong

(NEXSTAR) — His name may no longer be “Bond, James Bond,” but former 007 Daniel Craig is setting the record straight about how to pronounce his name. This may come as a surprise, seeing as Craig’s name doesn’t seem all that odd. Nevertheless, the 56 year-old actor, currently starring in Luca Guadagnino’s latest film “Queer,” lightheartedly addressed the issue during an appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on Monday, Dec. 2. Taco Bell adding photo booth experience to drive-thrus nationwide for a limited time “I have a bone to pick with you,” Craig told Colbert. The actor then challenged the late-night host to “say my name.” When Colbert responded by pronouncing Craig’s surname like “Cray-g,” the actor responded, “Oh, now you’re doing it right.” According to Craig, Colbert had previously pronounced the surname as most Americans would: “Cregg.” Craig proceeded to explain that his surname contains a diphthong, which Merriam-Webster defines as “a gliding speech sound that starts at or near the articulatory position for one vowel and moves to or toward the position of another.” This image released by A24 shows Daniel

Now that ‘Real Housewives’ star Heather Gay has left the Mormon church, she has a lot to say

When a “Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” castmate first described Heather Gay as a “good time girl” who exposed her breasts while attending Brigham Young University, an insulted Gay insisted that couldn’t be further from the truth. She wished that was her reputation, but the name plagued her in the early days of the Bravo series and caused a rift with Lisa Barlow, the castmate describing her that way. (The pair are close now.) Some four years later, Gay has reclaimed the label that once irked her and titled her second book — a follow-up to her 2023 debut, “Bad Mormon” — “Good Time Girl,” out Dec. 3 via Gallery Books. In it, Gay, 50, reveals that she was always a “good time girl” on the inside, but her Mormon faith ultimately dimmed that light; she recounts vulnerable anecdotes about bedwetting, her ex-husband throwing out her CD cases

A passenger is suspected of falling off the Ruby Princess early Monday. The U.S. Coast Guard was called in to help find the man, but has since called off the search. (Eric Risberg / Associated Press) A missing 72-year-old man is suspected to have gone overboard a cruise ship outside San Francisco early Monday, according to the cruise line and local authorities. It wasn’t immediately clear what led to the incident, but a spokesperson for Princess Cruises said its team had reviewed video footage from the ship and also had “searched thoroughly several times without success,” ruling out any other possibilities for the man’s whereabouts. The man, who wasn’t immediately identified, had been traveling alone on the Ruby Princess, which had departed from San Francisco on Nov. 27 for a five-day trip, according to Briana Latter, a Princess Cruises spokesperson. The ship was set to return to San Francisco just before 7 a.m. Monday after traveling to San Diego and Ensenada, Mexico. The man is believed to have gone overboard sometime early Monday before the ship docked, Latter said in a statement. “We extend our

Anthony Becker trial: Prosecution admits to “destroyed evidence” that documented the search of an ex-49ers exec’s home

An audio recording that documented a search warrant being served on an ex-49ers executive’s home as investigators compiled evidence against Santa Clara Vice Mayor Anthony Becker was “destroyed,” Becker’s attorneys revealed in court. Ben Holt, a criminal investigator with the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, testified on Monday in Superior Court in Morgan Hill that he is “responsible for evidence being lost” involving the prosecution’s star witness — Rahul Chandhok, the 49ers’ former chief of communications. Chandhok testified at the start of the trial that the vice mayor leaked him a copy of “Unsportsmanlike Conduct,” a 2022 Santa Clara County Civil Grand Jury report criticizing the team’s relationship with Becker and other members of the council, several days before it became public. Becker, who recently lost his re-election bid, is on trial for allegedly leaking the report to the 49ers and a local news outlet, as well as perjuring himself under oath. His trial resumed on Monday after taking a week-long break. The destroyed audio recording captured the events of Jan. 12, 2023, when a group of five officers — including Holt — served

Police recover a stolen van with 2,500 pies after a chef’s appeal, but they are too damaged to eat

LONDON (AP) — A British chef’s appeal for thieves to return 2,500 pies that were in a stolen van ended in disappointment Tuesday when police found the vehicle abandoned, with its savory cargo too damaged to eat. Tommy Banks, who owns two Michelin-starred restaurants and a pub in the northern English county of Yorkshire, said a member of staff discovered the van was missing, along with its cargo of steak and ale, turkey and butternut squash pies intended for a Christmas market in the city of York. The food has been valued at 25,000 pounds ($32,000). Banks said the van was insured, but he implored the vehicle thieves not to let the food go to waste. In an Instagram video, he suggested they “do the right thing” and drop the pies at a community center or other venue. In an update, Banks said police had found the van, badly damaged and with stolen license plates, in Middlesbrough, about 30 miles (50 km) from where it was taken. He said the pies were still inside but were damaged and would have to be discarded. “It’s just

Trump vows to block Japanese steelmaker from buying US Steel, pledges tax incentives and tariffs

By MARC LEVY and JOSH BOAK HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump is underscoring his intention to block the purchase of U.S. Steel by Japanese steelmaker Nippon Steel Corp., and he’s pledging to use tax incentives and tariffs to strengthen the iconic American steelmaker. Trump had vowed early in the presidential campaign that he would “instantaneously” block the deal, and he reiterated that sentiment in a post on his Truth Social platform on Monday night. “I am totally against the once great and powerful U.S. Steel being bought by a foreign company” and will use tax incentives and tariffs to make U.S. Steel “Strong and Great Again, and it will happen FAST!” he wrote. “As President,” he continued, “I will block this deal from happening. Buyer Beware!!!” President Joe Biden, like Trump, also opposes Nippon Steel’s purchase of Pittsburgh-based U.S. Steel. Biden’s White House in September said that it had yet to see a report from the secretive Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States, which was reviewing the transaction for national security concerns. The committee, which is chaired by the treasury secretary and includes other Cabinet members, can recommend that the

19-year-old accused of stealing $42,000 worth of gas from Lincoln Acres gas station

A 19-year-old man suspected of stealing about $42,000 worth of gasoline from a South County gas station was arrested Monday by sheriff’s deputies, officials said. The man was taken into custody on suspicion of grand theft Monday morning while he was filling a GMC Yukon with gas at a Chevron station on Sweetwater Road near Prospect Street, sheriff’s officials said. The investigation began in late November after employees told investigators the suspect was believed to have been visiting the gas station at least twice a week since June, stealing an estimated $2,000 worth of gasoline each time. The gas station had been working with Chevron’s Information Technology Department to resolve the issue after employees noticed fuel consumption amounts were not matching sales amounts at the end of the day, officials said. Employees at the gas station began reviewing video surveillance footage from the date and times of the unauthorized transactions and noticed the same vehicle and unidentified man stealing gasoline each time, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies said the suspect manipulated the gas pumps using a credit card, which indicated to the fuel system

South Korean parliament votes to defy president by lifting his declaration of martial law

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law late Tuesday, vowing to eliminate “anti-state” forces as he struggles against an opposition that controls the country’s parliament and that he accuses of sympathizing with communist North Korea. Less than three hours later, parliament voted to lift the declaration, with National Assembly Speaker Woo Won Shik declaring that the martial law was “invalid” and that lawmakers “will protect democracy with the people.” The president’s surprising move harkened back to an era of authoritarian leaders that the country has not seen since the 1980s, and it was immediately denounced by the opposition and the leader of Yoon’s own party. Police and military personnel were seen leaving the Assembly’s grounds after Woo called for their withdrawal. Lee Jae-myung, leader of the liberal Democratic Party, which holds the majority in the 300-seat parliament, said the party’s lawmakers will remain in the Assembly’s main hall until Yoon formally lifts his order. “Democratic Party lawmakers, including me and many others, will protect our country’s democracy and future and public safety, lives and properties, with our own

Chinese man living illegally in I.E. tried to send weapons, ammo to North Korea: DOJ

A Chinese man living illegally in Ontario was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly sent guns, ammunition and military equipment to North Korea by disguising it in shipping containers headed out from Long Beach. Shenghua Wen, 41, was charged with conspiracy to violate the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, the United States Department of Justice said in a news release. According to prosecutors, Wen overstayed a student visa, making him legally unable to possess guns or ammunition. Despite that, he and his co-conspirators “exported shipments of firearms and ammunition to North Korea by concealing the items inside shipping containers that were shipped from Long Beach through Hong Kong to North Korea,” the DOJ said. Items seized include about 50,000 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, a device to identify chemical threats and a hand-held broadband receiver that detects eavesdropping devices, authorities said. The U.S. DOJ provided these undated images of weapons and military equipment that Shenghua Wen allegedly tried to illegally send to North Korea.
