Sean “Diddy” Combs admitted Sunday that he beat his ex-girlfriend in a hotel hallway in 2016 after CNN released video of the attack, saying in a video apology he was “truly sorry” and his actions were “inexcusable.” “I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I was disgusted then when I did it. I’m disgusted now,” the music mogul said in a video statement posted Sunday to Instagram and Facebook. The video aired Friday shows Combs, wearing only a white towel, punching and kicking Cassie, an R&B singer who was his protege and longtime girlfriend at the time. The footage also shows Combs shoving and dragging Cassie, and throwing a vase in her direction. Cassie, whose legal name is Cassandra Ventura, sued Combs in November over what she said was years of sexual, physical and emotional abuse. The suit was settled the next day, but spurred intense scrutiny of Combs, with several more lawsuits filed in the

Chico High baseball continues hot streak, beats Red Bluff for first section championship since 2017

CHICO — A culture is key to the success of any athletic program, and when Chico High head coach Brian Thomas took over at the helm of the Panthers’ baseball program, he knew this is where it started. Thomas returned to the home field at Butte College — where he was the pitching coach and associate head coach for 10 seasons — on Saturday, leading the Panthers in their chase for their first Northern Section championship since 2017. The No. 1 seed Panthers (21-6-1) won a pitchers’ duel in Saturday’s Northern Section Division II Super Regional Championship against Red Bluff, defeating the Spartans 2-0. It was Chico’s 14th win in its past 15 games, and the Panthers continued to “ride the wave” wearing their Hawaii-themed, “Ohana” jerseys Saturday. “When you implement a program, your first concern early is are they going to understand the culture you’re trying to implement, which is ultimately more of a mindset,” said Thomas. “Our culture is attitude and effort, plain and simple.” Thomas said that mindset he hoped to implement with the Panthers comes from his previous coaching experience with

DIMES: Is Draymond Green right about Rudy Gobert and Nikola Jokic?

Warriors beat writer Danny Emerman shares his thoughts on the NBA playoffs and beyond. As was the case with Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan, there’s no Nikola Jokic stopper. The three-time MVP looks and plays nothing like MJ or Kobe, but that’s the truth. Rudy Gobert looked like a car dealership inflatable tube trying to guard Jokic 1-on-1. Draymond Green said he could do better, but his track record says otherwise. Last time Green and Jokic matched up in the playoffs, Jokic solved the Warriors after two games — he averaged 34.7 points, 15 rebounds and 6.3 assists on 65.6 percent shooting in the last three games of the series. Last time they met in the regular season, Jokic dropped 32/16/16. Just like Gobert and the Wolves, the Warriors often have more success with Kevon Looney checking Jokic and Green roaming behind as a help defender. But again, nobody stops Jokic. The most successful defenders against him in isolation are Ivica Zubac and Jusuf Nurkic — two of the only players who can match his physicality. Gobert and Green will always be linked, not only

Helicopter carrying Iran’s president suffers a ‘hard landing,’ state TV says, and rescue is underway

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi suffered a “hard landing” on Sunday, Iranian state media reported, without elaborating. Some began urging the public to pray for Raisi and the others on board as rescue crews sped through a misty, rural forest where his helicopter was believed to be. Raisi was traveling in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province. State TV said the incident happened near Jolfa, a city on the border with with the nation of Azerbaijan, some 600 kilometers (375 miles) northwest of the Iranian capital, Tehran. Later, the TV put it farther east near the village of Uzi, but details remained contradictory. Traveling with Raisi were Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, the governor of Iran’s East Azerbaijan province and other officials and bodyguards, the state-run IRNA news agency reported. One local government official used the word “crash” to describe the incident, but he acknowledged to an Iranian newspaper that he had yet to reach the site himself. Neither IRNA nor state TV offered any information on Raisi’s condition. However, hard-liners urged the public to pray for him. State TV

Brock Purdy talks shop with ex-49ers QBs Steve Young, Jeff Garcia, Alex Smith

SAN JOSE – Brock Purdy sat rapt with attention on the California Theatre stage. Next to him, Steve Young, Jeff Garcia and Alex Smith reminisced about their best playoff wins as 49ers quarterbacks when, organically, it was time to teach the new kid about storied Candlestick Park. “It’s too bad, Brock, as much as Levi’s is a beautiful stadium, that you didn’t get to experience Candlestick,” Garcia said of the 49ers’ 1971-2013 home. “Candlestick breathed,” Young chimed in. “The whole thing kind of moved with you.” Added Smith: “Every time I’m driving by Candlestick Park —  the (freeway) sign still says Candlestick Park – I have my kids in the car and they are very tired of hearing about it. I can’t get it out of my head how electric it was to be a part of that.” That trio then described the swirling winds, a “creepy” tunnel to the locker room, a soggy field that played mind games with opponents, and, storybook victories that vaulted the 49ers among the NFL’s elite franchises. Of course, the most famous game at Candlestick saw the 1981 team

Northeast Fresno welcomes Banyan Tree dispensary, boosting revenue hopes for city leaders

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Banyan Tree, a new cannabis dispensary in Northeast Fresno, held its grand opening on Saturday. It’s one of several legal cannabis dispensaries operating in the city. After a very slow start, Fresno City leaders expect cannabis revenue to continue to bloom, with 13 businesses open out of the 19 that are allowed. “Banyan Tree is 100% local, locally owned,” said Ace Castillo, the CEO of Banyan Tree. “Local investments and dollars that came to help open this place.” The City expects to bring in about $7 million in cannabis revenue for the 2025 fiscal year, especially with 13 storefronts now operating. But last year, the city fell short. RELATED: Legal cannabis struggles to reach full bloom as City of Fresno misses projections “It was due largely in part to only having two dispensaries open,” said Fresno City Council President Annalisa Perea. “What we’ve seen recently is a vast influx of new storefronts opening.” Perea said a maximum of 21 dispensaries will be allowed to do business in the city, which would be about three stores per district. Last Thursday, Mayor Jerry
