CHICO — A culture is key to the success of any athletic program, and when Chico High head coach Brian Thomas took over at the helm of the Panthers’ baseball program, he knew this is where it started. Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was traveling in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province when the helicopter was forced to land due to weather. A rescue is underway.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — A helicopter carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi suffered a “hard landing” on Sunday, Iranian state media reported, without elaborating. Some began urging the public to pray for Raisi and the others on board as rescue crews sped through a misty, rural forest where his helicopter was believed to be. Raisi was traveling in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province. State TV said the incident happened near Jolfa, a city on the border with with the nation of Azerbaijan, some 600 kilometers (375 miles) northwest of the Iranian capital, Tehran. Later, the TV put it farther east near the village of Uzi, but details remained contradictory. Traveling with Raisi were Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, the governor of Iran’s East Azerbaijan province and other officials and bodyguards, the state-run IRNA news agency reported. One local government official used the word “crash” to describe the incident, but he acknowledged to an Iranian newspaper that he had yet to reach the site himself. On stage to give Luke his diploma Thursday was his mother, Linda Dias Mobilio, clinical practice coordinator in the school of education. “The opportunity to hand Luke his diploma onstage as a faculty member was probably one of the most special opportunities I think I could ever have imagined,” she said. “I can not even describe how it felt. FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Banyan Tree, a new cannabis dispensary in Northeast Fresno, held its grand opening on Saturday. It’s one of several legal cannabis dispensaries operating in the city. After a very slow start, Fresno City leaders expect cannabis revenue to continue to bloom, with 13 businesses open out of the 19 that are allowed. “Banyan Tree is 100% local, locally owned,” said Ace Castillo, the CEO of Banyan Tree. “Local investments and dollars that came to help open this place.” The City expects to bring in about $7 million in cannabis revenue for the 2025 fiscal year, especially with 13 storefronts now operating. But last year, the city fell short. Sunday, May 19, 2024 3:25AM Merced County Sheriff’s Deputies are attempting to rescue a kayaker from the Merced River. It’s the second rescue from the river this week. MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) — The Merced County Sheriff’s Office says they are working to save a kayaker who is stranded in the middle of the river near Snelling. This comes after another rescue in the middle of the river just three days ago. Deputies rescued two people who were hanging onto a tiny tree. The Sheriff’s Office Water Rescue and Recovery Team is also continuing to search for a 17-year-old who was swept away in the river last weekend. Authorities covered a ghost gun, magazines and auto theft tools. 22-year-old Christopher Anderson, 19-year-old Nathan Olivas and 23-year-old Jesse Venegas were arrested for Operating a “Chop Shop,” auto theft and various firearms charges. All three men were booked into the Tulare County Jail. Authorities say the auto theft ring was responsible for selling, dismantling and destroying 13 vehicles valued at over $500,000. DA George Gascón’s office says if the incident did indeed happen in 2016, it would be too late to file criminal charges. “We are aware of the video that has been circulating online allegedly depicting Sean Combs assaulting a young woman in Los Angeles,” the DA’s office said. “We find the images extremely disturbing and difficult to watch.” “If the conduct depicted occurred in 2016, unfortunately we would be unable to charge as the conduct would have occurred beyond the timeline where a crime of assault can be prosecuted.
