A UnitedHealth spokesperson confirmed with WCCO that the suit involves the health insurance giant’s proposed $3.3 billion acquisition of Louisiana-based Amedisys Inc., one of the country’s biggest home health and hospice care providers. Bloomberg News reports the suit was filed days after a meeting last weekend between the justice department and heads of both health care companies failed to quell concerns of possible antitrust issues, despite the companies’ joint offer to sell off 100-plus clinics to a Texas-based competitor. Both companies operate in many of the same states, especially in the South.

Karol G says ‘+57’ lyrics perceived as sexualizing minors were ‘taken out of context’

Karol G is responding to the backlash surrounding her latest single that drew criticism from critics and social justice advocates for its perceived sexualization of minors. The Grammy-winning singer dropped her high-performing collaboration “+57” last week. Named after Colombia’s telephone code, the dance track is loaded with features from Medellín-born artists — including reggaeton sensations J Balvin and Maluma — and debuted at No. 1 on Spotify in Colombia with 1,042,412 streams . However, the song’s commercial success has been eclipsed by the controversy around its lyrics; “A mamacita since 14” is just one of the lines that has been interpreted as sexualizing underage girls. Karol G argued against that interpretation in a since-expired statement written in Spanish on her Instagram story on Monday. “As artists, we are exposed to public opinion, and to the individual interpretations of people who like us and people who differ with what we do,” the “Provenza” singer wrote. “In this case, unfortunately, the lyrics of a song, with which I sought to celebrate the union between artists and put to shine my people … were taken out of context.

John Mayer and producer McG set to buy historic Jim Henson studio lot in Hollywood

John Mayer and movie director McG have agreed to buy the Jim Henson Company Lot, a legendary studio in Hollywood founded by Charlie Chaplin. Singer-songwriter Mayer occupies an office on the lot and has been working for months to buy it from the family of the famed Muppets creator, according to a real estate industry source with knowledge of the deal who is not authorized to speak about it publicly. Mayer and McG recently agreed to pay more than $40 million for the property, the source said. The pending sale was confirmed by Mayer’s representative Larry Solters, who said in an email: “John Mayer and McG are under contract to purchase Henson Studios.” McG is the professional name of Joseph McGinty Nichol, a former record producer who is now a movie producer and director known for “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle,” “Terminator Salvation” and “Uglies.” It’s unclear when the sale will close and Solters did not elaborate on what the buyers’ plans are for the property at 1416 N. La Brea Ave., which has a history as a movie and television studio but now functions primarily

Chloe Fineman confirms that ‘rude’ Elon Musk was the ‘SNL’ host who made her cry

Comedian Chloe Fineman says Space X owner Elon Musk made her cry when he hosted “Saturday Night Live” in 2021. Fineman recalled working with the tech billionaire in a since-deleted TikTok, months after fellow cast member and writer Bowen Yang alluded to the behind-the-scenes drama during an appearance on Bravo’s “Watch What Happens Live!” Yang cryptically revealed in August that a host brought several staffers to tears because “he hated the ideas” they had. Speculation abounded and Fineman confirmed her part in it Monday. The “SNL” star broke her silence after blowing up the Tesla chief executive’s “butt hurt” reaction to “SNL” alumnus Dana Carvey’s impression of him in Saturday’s post-election episode. (Carvey returned to Studio 8H as a bouncy, fist-pumping version of the “Dark MAGA”-boasting Musk in the cold open, claiming he would run the country after former President Trump’s re-election last week. Fineman said that world’s richest man and Trump loyalist is “clearly watching the show” despite his barrage of “rude” criticism on his X platform. “I’m gonna come out and say at long last that I’m the cast member that he made

How much would a $10,000 home equity loan cost monthly now that rates are cut?

We may receive commissions from some links to products on this page. Promotions are subject to availability and retailer terms. Before borrowing from their home equity, homeowners should calculate their potential monthly payments. Getty Images The federal funds rate is on the decline again. And that’s good news for borrowers of all types, particularly those who are considering accessing their existing home equity . While the Federal Reserve’s actions (or lack thereof) influence borrowing products in different ways, there’s a greater influence on home equity loan interest rates than, for example, mortgage rates .  That means home equity loan rates, while not falling in direct relation to the federal funds rate, are generally on a decline right now. With the average homeowner also in possession of around $330,000 worth of equity ,  this combination of low rate and high equity makes it an attractive way to borrow money in today’s unique economic climate.  Still, the home serves as collateral in these borrowing circumstances. To avoid losing it, then, borrowers must calculate their potential costs in advance so they know what they can afford, even if

What to know about Trump and RFK Jr.’s “Make America Healthy Again” agenda

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has outlined a number of promises to “Make America Healthy Again” under President-elect Donald Trump , vowing to combat an “epidemic” of chronic diseases that he has described as an “existential” threat to America’s future. All are under the banner of fighting what Kennedy sees as a common thread behind a broad swath of ailments: that Americans have been “mass poisoned by big pharma and big food,” and that federal agencies have failed to stop it. In response, he has also floated a number of specific policy ideas to remake the federal government’s public health institutions.  “[Trump] asked me to end the chronic disease epidemic in this country. And he said, I want to see results, measurable results in the diminishment of chronic disease within two years. And I said, Mr. President, I will do that,” Kennedy said on Nov. 2.  Authority for a MAHA agenda Kennedy’s allies say Trump’s election is also a mandate for their platform of health proposals, which they say delivered key votes for the president-elect. Trump has promised to let Kennedy “go wild” on health issues.

USC football placed on probation for violating NCAA coaching staff rules

(Lindsey Wasson / Associated Press) Nov. 12, 2024 Updated 11:39 AM PT The USC football program has been put on probation for one year after the NCAA found the Trojans violated rules restricting the number of analysts allowed to be engaged in on- and off-field coaching activities during the 2022 season and spring of 2023. The NCAA found that USC exceeded the allowed number of countable coaches by six during a two-year period. The NCAA also found that USC coach Lincoln Riley was presumed responsible for the program committing the violations. In January 2023, the NCAA changed the rules restricting the number of coaches on a staff and their duties. According to an NCAA news release, Riley “rebutted his presumed responsibility for the violations occurring before the rules change.” Riley will not be suspended as part of the violations. But in addition to being placed on probation, USC was ordered to pay a $50,000 fine. “Since learning of potential violations related to our football program in May 2023, USC has worked cooperatively with the NCAA enforcement staff and with the Committee on Infractions, as we identified

Rainn Wilson and Aasif Mandvi are waiting for ‘Godot’ at Geffen Playhouse

Aasif Mandvi, one of the leads in a new production of “Waiting for Godot” opening Thursday at L.A.’s Geffen Playhouse, is sitting on a couch, recalling the dearth of roles for South Asian actors in 2003, when he played a Taliban minister in Tony Kushner’s “Homebody/Kabul.” Mandvi’s co-star, Rainn Wilson, leans in. “I thought you were Cuban!” Wilson deadpans. Mandvi doesn’t miss a beat. “I’ve told you a million times, I’m not Cuban,” he says with mock exasperation. “You could play Cuban,” Wilson says. “I’ve played Cuban, but I’m not Cuban,” Mandvi says. “You should change your name, you really should,” Wilson persists. “Like, Antonio Mandivosa. You would work nonstop.” Mandvi shakes his head, ribbing Wilson right back. “You’re so white right now,” he says. They both laugh. The two men are in the midst of recounting their early days in theater, when Wilson didn’t make more than $17,000 annually for years and Madvi toured Florida with a production of “Aladdin” for kids so young they occasionally peed their pants during the performance. Construction worker convicted for killing elderly woman at her home

A man was convicted of capital murder last week in connection to the brutal 2019 killing of an elderly woman who previously employed him as a construction worker, prosecutors said. Heber Enoc Diaz, 33 of Pasadena, was hired to work at the Arcadia home of 76-year-old Chyong Jen Tsai in 2019. In March of that year, while employed by Tsai, he committed a burglary at the home, prosecutors say. The next month, he was no longer working there, but he returned to the home to commit another burglary. That’s when he was confronted by Tsai in the house’s garage. He allegedly used a hammer, jab saw and a box cutter to kill the woman on April 9, 2019, authorities said. Her body was found in the house’s yard. Chyong Jen Tsai, and views of her stolen vehicle, are seen in these photos provided by the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, Temple Station. Tasi’s white 2005 Lexus RX 300 was also stolen that day. Her husband was out of the country at the time of her death. Diaz was arrested on suspicion of the killing 10 days
