A UnitedHealth spokesperson confirmed with WCCO that the suit involves the health insurance giant’s proposed $3.3 billion acquisition of Louisiana-based Amedisys Inc., one of the country’s biggest home health and hospice care providers. Bloomberg News reports the suit was filed days after a meeting last weekend between the justice department and heads of both health care companies failed to quell concerns of possible antitrust issues, despite the companies’ joint offer to sell off 100-plus clinics to a Texas-based competitor. John Mayer and movie director McG have agreed to buy the Jim Henson Company Lot, a legendary studio in Hollywood founded by Charlie Chaplin. Singer-songwriter Mayer occupies an office on the lot and has been working for months to buy it from the family of the famed Muppets creator, according to a real estate industry source with knowledge of the deal who is not authorized to speak about it publicly. Mayer and McG recently agreed to pay more than $40 million for the property, the source said. The pending sale was confirmed by Mayer’s representative Larry Solters, who said in an email: “John Mayer and McG are under contract to purchase Henson Studios.” McG is the professional name of Joseph McGinty Nichol, a former record producer who is now a movie producer and director known for “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle,” “Terminator Salvation” and “Uglies.” It’s unclear when the sale will close and Solters did not elaborate on what the buyers’ plans are for the property at 1416 N. Kennedy Jr. has outlined a number of promises to “Make America Healthy Again” under President-elect Donald Trump , vowing to combat an “epidemic” of chronic diseases that he has described as an “existential” threat to America’s future. All are under the banner of fighting what Kennedy sees as a common thread behind a broad swath of ailments: that Americans have been “mass poisoned by big pharma and big food,” and that federal agencies have failed to stop it. In response, he has also floated a number of specific policy ideas to remake the federal government’s public health institutions.  “[Trump] asked me to end the chronic disease epidemic in this country. And he said, I want to see results, measurable results in the diminishment of chronic disease within two years. And I said, Mr. President, I will do that,” Kennedy said on Nov. 2.  Authority for a MAHA agenda Kennedy’s allies say Trump’s election is also a mandate for their platform of health proposals, which they say delivered key votes for the president-elect. Authorities Tuesday identified a woman who was fatally shot in Hawthorne, a crime that left her alleged killer in custody. The shooting was reported at about 11 a.m. Sunday near Doty Avenue and El Segundo Boulevard, according to the Hawthorne Police Department. Officers found the victim suffering from several gunshot wounds to her upper body, and she died at the scene, police said. On Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner identified the woman as Kmore Justine Brownstone, 54, of Hawthorne. Witnesses told police the suspect dropped a firearm and walked following the crime, and officers arrested a 49-year-old man after searching the area, police said. The suspect, whose name was not available for release, was booked on suspicion of murder.

With phase one of a $250 million waterfront development slated for a grand opening in 2026, the Port of Los Angeles Tuesday called on interested parties to help redevelop one of its most iconic buildings just a mile away. The port issued a request for interest, also known as an RFI, for the redevelopment of its Warehouse No. 1, a six-story, nearly 500,000 square feet building offering panoramic views of the L.A. Waterfront and Catalina Island. Parties who are interested in pursuing this opportunity are asked to provide a statement on their potential use of the site. The RFI is intended to inform subsequent steps such as a request for qualifications and request for proposals, which are expected to be released next year. “Redevelopment of the historic Warehouse No. 1 is another major step in the port’s long-term vision to transform the L.A. The NCAA found that USC exceeded the allowed number of countable coaches by six during a two-year period. The NCAA also found that USC coach Lincoln Riley was presumed responsible for the program committing the violations. In January 2023, the NCAA changed the rules restricting the number of coaches on a staff and their duties. According to an NCAA news release, Riley “rebutted his presumed responsibility for the violations occurring before the rules change.” Riley will not be suspended as part of the violations. Authorities have arrested a teenager who they say killed another teen at a park in Orange County over the weekend.  Officers with the Anaheim Police Department were dispatched to a local hospital around 8:30 p.m. Sunday when the 16-year-old victim was brought there for treatment of at least one gunshot wound, a news release issued by APD stated.  It was not stated how he was transported to the hospital.  Initial investigation revealed that about 30 minutes prior, the boy had been at John Marshall Park, located in the 2000 block of West La Palma Avenue, when a group of suspects confronted him.  “One of the suspects produced a handgun and shot the boy at least once,” Anaheim police said.  Construction worker convicted for killing elderly woman at her home Further investigation led to the identification of the gunman as 19-year-old Samuel Galeno.  Galeno, an Anaheim resident, was taken into custody without incident after a search warrant was executed at a home in the 1800 block of West Tamara Lane.  He was booked at the Anaheim Detention Facility for murder, police said. A man was convicted of capital murder last week in connection to the brutal 2019 killing of an elderly woman who previously employed him as a construction worker, prosecutors said. Heber Enoc Diaz, 33 of Pasadena, was hired to work at the Arcadia home of 76-year-old Chyong Jen Tsai in 2019. In March of that year, while employed by Tsai, he committed a burglary at the home, prosecutors say. The next month, he was no longer working there, but he returned to the home to commit another burglary. That’s when he was confronted by Tsai in the house’s garage. He allegedly used a hammer, jab saw and a box cutter to kill the woman on April 9, 2019, authorities said. Her body was found in the house’s yard.
