Two teenagers are dead and one is hospitalized with serious injuries following a suspected DUI crash in Riverside on Saturday, officials confirmed. Riverside Police said calls came into the department around 5:40 a.m. reporting a crash on Wood Road, north of Van Buren Boulevard. First responders arrived and found one of the two involved vehicles on fire. After putting out the flames, police said they found two people deceased inside. According to the preliminary investigation, three teenagers were in the car that caught on fire, a gray Lexus sedan, and the other car involved was a blue Scion with an adult male as the sole occupant. Police have not released any of their identities. The investigation shows a 17-year-old boy was speeding in the Lexus northbound on Wood Road when he ran a red light at Van Buren Boulevard. Stark County prosecutor Kyle Stone told reporters Saturday that the charges against Canton officers Beau Schoenegge and Camden Burch were brought by a grand jury in the April 18 death of Frank Tyson, a 53-year-old East Canton resident taken into custody shortly after a vehicle crash that had severed a utility pole. Police body-camera footage showed Tyson, who was Black, resisting and saying repeatedly, “They’re trying to kill me” and “Call the sheriff” as he was taken to the floor, and he told officers he could not breathe. Officers told Tyson he was fine, to calm down and to stop fighting as he was handcuffed face down, and officers joked with bystanders and leafed through Tyson’s wallet before realizing he was in a medical crisis. A settlement `in principle’ has been reached in cross litigation between Pussycat Dolls frontwoman Nicole Scherzinger and the group’s creator regarding the 2022 cancellation of a proposed group reunion tour. Robin Antin, the choreographer who started the Pussycat Dolls, sued Scherzinger in September 2021, alleging the singer wrongfully refused to participate in the group’s planned reunion tour unless she was granted full creative control and a larger share in the group’s business venture. The tour was canceled in early 2022. In their court papers, Antin’s attorneys called Scherzinger’s ultimatums a form of “extortion’ that were “materially different” than those the parties had agreed upon under a February 2019 contract. The attorneys in the case filed joint papers on Friday with Judge Mark H. Epstein notifying him of a settlement “in principle” that they said is “subject to the execution of certain written agreements.” No proposed terms were divulged. A former Loyola Marymount University women’s soccer coach has dropped her wrongful termination lawsuit in which she alleged she encountered resistance to her directives from the athletic department on down to her students. Jenny Bindon’s Santa Monica Superior Court lawsuit had a host of other allegations, including breach of contract, retaliation, defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress. On Thursday, her attorney filed court papers with Judge H. Jay Ford III asking that Bindon’s case be dismissed “with prejudice,” meaning it cannot be refiled. The court papers do not state if a settlement was reached or if Bindon was not pursuing the case for other reasons. Bindon was hired in December 2019 as the sixth head coach in program history. During her two seasons with LMU, she posted an overall record of 1-26-1. In the 2020-21 season — which was played during the spring semester due to the coronavirus pandemic — the Lions posted a 1-7-1 record. As a player, Bindon represented the New Zealand national team for 10 years, collecting 77 caps, the most by a goalkeeper, men’s or women’s, in that nation’s history.

Residents of a mountain community in Riverside County are being advised to evacuate or shelter in place after a propane truck leaked Saturday morning.  According to Cal Fire, crews were dispatched to the 53100 block of Mountain View Drive in Pine Cove, located in the San Jacinto Mountains west of Palm Springs and Cathedral City, around 9:30 a.m. Saturday on reports of a semi-truck leaking propane gas.   Evacuation orders were subsequently put in place for those living on Mountain View Drive, a dead-end street off CA-243.  An evacuation order is in place for residents of Mountain View Drive in the Pine Cove community. The red exclamation point indicates Mountain View Drive, while residents of a street due south, Walters Drive, are advised to shelter in place. Sheila Keen-Warren , 61, was released 18 months after she pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for the shooting of Marlene Warren, Florida Department of Corrections records show. The plea deal came shortly before her trial would have started. Keen-Warren , who has maintained her innocence even after her plea, was sentenced to 12 years in prison. But she had been in custody for seven years since her arrest in 2017, and Florida’s law in 1990 allowed significant credit for good behavior. It had been expected she would be released in about two years. “Sheila Keen-Warren will always be an admitted convicted murderer and will wear that stain for every day for the rest of her life,” Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg said in a statement Saturday. With election day right around the corner, Los Angeles County officials opened hundreds of additional vote centers Saturday where voters can go to cast early ballots in person. The Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk opened an additional 526 centers, according to a post on its X account. This is on top of the 122 centers already open across the county, where people can go to vote in person or drop off their ballot for the Nov. 5 election. The centers are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Most wait times were under 15 minutes, according to officials. The county’s mobile voting centers will also travel across the region until election day. Voters also have the option of submitting completed ballots through the mail, so long as they were postmarked before or on Nov. 5 and received by Nov. 12. Mail-in ballots can also be returned at voter centers or vote-by-mail drop boxes. Firefighters Saturday knocked down a fire in one unit at a row of one-story bungalows in the Vermont Square community of Los Angeles, authorities said. Firefighters dispatched at 10:55 a.m. to 526 W. 47th St. had the fire out within 19 minutes of their arrival, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported. “Firefighters contained the fire to one unit, preventing it from extending into the attic,” said Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department. No injuries were reported and a cause of the fire was under investigation.

Police Saturday are investigating a fatal stabbing in front of the live music venue Echoplex in Echo Park. Los Angeles Police Department officers were called at 2:15 a.m. to 1822 Sunset Blvd. near Glendale Boulevard regarding a person being stabbed. When they arrived, officers found a man 33-year old man on a sidewalk suffering from multiples stab wounds, an LAPD spokesman told City News Service. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department personnel. There was no suspect description and the investigation is ongoing. The LAPD’s Northeast station urged anyone with any information regarding the homicide to call them at 323-561-3211 or during non-business hours and weekends at 877-527-3247. A boat carrying seven people caught fire in the harbor near the historic Queen Mary in Long Beach on Friday night.  According to a Long Beach Fire Department spokesperson, firefighters were dispatched to the 700 block of Queensway Drive near the Hotel Maya just after 7:10 p.m. on reports of a boat fire.  Arriving crews located an approximately 30-foot boat fully engulfed in flames, the LBFD spokesperson confirmed to KTLA.  Footage posted to the Citizen App from across the harbor shows a swarm of police lights at the scene. While no clear footage of the burning boat was captured, smoke was seen billowing around the Queen Mary.  Of the seven people onboard the boat at the time, four were hospitalized, officials said. Their conditions are not known.  The other three individuals refused treatment; some were seen floating away in a dinghy by Long Beach Police Department officers shortly after the fire broke out, authorities stated. The private boat was taken to a local fire station, and what caused the blaze is not known.

Two Los Angeles police officers were wounded and a suspect was taken into custody Friday night after a shootout that erupted in South L.A. while officers were investigating a possible robbery, authorities said. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. Friday when the two officers from LAPD’s Southeast Division responded to a report of a robbery in the 9200 block of Central Avenue, according to police. At some point during the ensuing encounter, the officers exchanged fire with an armed suspect, who then fled the area, police said. It wasn’t immediately clear whether the suspect was struck. A radio call for help brought a massive police response — including officers from neighboring divisions to the scene — which sits on the border of Florence-Firestone, an unincorporated neighborhood north of Watts. Officers with police K9s searched the area late into the night; the suspect was found and arrested after several hours, police said. The two unnamed officers were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
