This Week in City Hall: December 9, 2024

City Council
City Council will meet in closed and open sessions on Tuesday, December 9, in afternoon sessions at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. (agenda). The agenda includes:
- Mayor Lock Dawson will recognize California School for the Deaf, Riverside (CSDR) for their historic 2024 football season. (Item 5)
- Certifying the results of Ballot Measure L from the November 5, 2024 election where Riverside voters approved creating a new Inspector General position to investigate waste and misconduct in city government. (Item 7)
- Considering spending $250,000 of funds received from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development for a roof repair project for the Blindness Supportive Services office on Beatty Drive. (Item 29)
- Launching a pre-approved plans program for accessory dwelling units, which modifies the permitting process and provides standardized designs as part of the City’s response to state housing requirements. (Item 30)
- Considering final reallocations of $7.2 million in COVID-19 relief funds before the year-end deadline, with recommendations from financial consultants on ensuring compliance with federal requirements. (Item 31)
Land Use Committee
The Land Use Committee (Councilmembers Mill, Falcone, and Cervantes) meets on Monday, December 9, at 9:00 a.m. (agenda) to consider updates to Riverside’s sign regulations and a pilot program that would allow developers to fund bicycle infrastructure improvements to offset transportation impacts from new construction projects.
Board of Public Utilities
The Board of Public Utilities meets on Monday, December 9, at 6:30 p.m. (agenda) to approve the $25.2 million (over five years) purchase and installation of the remaining smart meters needed to modernize its electrical metering system, among other projects under consideration.
Finance Committee
The Finance Committee (Councilmembers Hemenway, Robillard, and Falcone) meets on Wednesday, December 11, at 9:00 a.m. (agenda) to review a quarterly financial report that shows stable investment returns and decreasing debt levelsand changes to local vendor policies which increased City spending with Riverside businesses from 1.08% to 4.05% of total purchases despite lower overall spending.
Community Police Review Commission
The Community Police Review Commission meets on Wednesday, December 11, at 5:30 p.m. (agenda) to review the annual report required by California’s Racial Identity Profiling Act to analyze police stop data patterns and recommend any needed policy changes.
Airport Commission
The Airport Commission meets on Thursday, December 12, at 3:00 p.m. (agenda) to review a report on increased activity levels and steady finances while completing several facility improvements.
Budget Engagement Commission
The Budget Engagement Commission meets on Thursday, December 12, at 5:00 p.m. (agenda) to review the City’s fourth-quarter financial report.
