AUGUSTA, Ga. —  Tiger Woods made history again this week by making the Masters cut for a record 24th consecutive time. But he couldn’t do much more than that. He shot a five-over-par 77 on Sunday, a day after a dismal 82 in the third round. Woods was able to finish a tournament for the second time since the start of 2023. “It was a good week all around,” he said, still upbeat after his Sunday round. “I think that coming in here, not having played a full tournament in a very long time, it was a good fight on Thursday and Friday. Unfortunately yesterday it didn’t quite turn out the way I wanted it to.” Woods got a rousing ovation from the spectators as he made his way up the 18th hole and into the clubhouse. Golf icon and returning Masters champion Tiger Woods opened the tournament’s last leg with his 100th round at the major. Among those favored to win were 27-year-olds Scottie Scheffler and Collin Morikawa, both of whom play on the PGA Tour and each with an impressive record. Scheffler has been ranked No. 1 in the world for more than two years now and also won the 2022 Masters tournament, which was his first major championship win. Southern California law enforcement agencies are exercising heightened vigilance around sensitive religious institutions Sunday following Iran’s military strikes on Israel. Authorities assured the public that no immediate threats have been identified in the Los Angeles area but said they were intently monitoring the situation. “The LAPD is closely monitoring the developments between Iran and Israel,” the Los Angeles Police Department posted Saturday on X. “While there are no credible threats to Los Angeles at this time, we are committed to ensuring safeguards to houses of worship and sensitive areas throughout all communities in Los Angeles.” Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said his department was also “closely monitoring the conflict between Israel and Iran and working with our federal and regional partners to ensure the safety of our communities in L.A. The Southland experienced more rain and cold temperatures Sunday, with mountain snow and a slight chance of thunderstorms. Most areas would get a half-inch of rain or less, according to the National Weather Service. Snow levels could fall as low as 3,500 feet with a possibility of some light snow over the Grapevine stretch of the Golden State (5) Freeway, the NWS said. The forecast also called for gusty winds in some areas. Highs were mostly in the 50s Sunday in Los Angeles County and in the low to mid-60s in Orange County, with winds of 20 to 30 mph and gusts up to 45 mph in the Antelope Valley. Authorities are investigating a plane crash that occurred in the San Bernardino Mountains on Saturday night, officials said. The twin-engine Gulfstream AC95 crashed at about 8:15 p.m. in the mountains north of Palm Avenue, according to preliminary information from the Federal Aviation Administration. Officials did not know how many people were on board, or whether anyone survived. The remote area is difficult to access by foot or vehicle, and search efforts were initially hampered by rain and wind that lashed the area Saturday night, officials said. By Sunday morning, authorities had located a debris field north of Devil’s Canyon, and members of the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Aviation Unit were on the scene along with search and rescue crews, said Gloria Huerta, a spokesperson with the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. It’s been a rocky couple of months for this Southern California roadway. Malibu Canyon Road, which has already closed several times during this stormy season, will have a portion closed at least until Monday after a rockslide, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Apparent wrong-way driver causes 11-car pileup on 101 Freeway near Camarillo; more than 15 injured The road in Malibu that leads to Pepperdine University is closed on both sides from Piuma to Pacific Coast Highway. The sheriff’s department estimated that it could reopen by 3 p.m. on Monday, though it could last longer depending on weather conditions. Malibu Canyon Road is closed again due to a rockslide. A man was arrested Saturday night after allegedly shooting multiple rounds of gunfire from the top of a Marina del Rey apartment building, scaring neighbors and drawing a large emergency response, authorities said. No one was injured as a result of the heavy gunfire, which was sprayed down on the streets along the 4100 block of Via Marina, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. An arrest was made after 911 calls came in after 10 p.m. about relentless gunfire in the affluent seaside Los Angeles neighborhood. The suspect — whose name has not been released — is in custody, and an investigation is ongoing, according to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department. A livestream of the incident appeared to be posted by the shooter, according to City News Service. Those videos appear to have been removed from the internet. An L.A. County Sheriff’s Department helicopter observed a male suspect on the roof of an apartment complex “firing rounds from a rifle,” according to a news release. Governor Gavin Newsom’s request for a Presidential Major Disaster Declaration has been approved by President Joe Biden, providing aid to nine California counties following February’s storms. Announced Sunday by the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, the declaration will support recovery efforts after the storms brought widespread flooding and mudslides to the state. The counties receiving aid include Butte, Glenn, Los Angeles, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Santa Cruz, Sutter and Ventura. “This declaration brings in more resources for local communities across the state recovering from the widespread impacts of these storms,” Gov. Newsom said. The United States now has a record number of cities where the “typical” home is worth $1 million or more, indicating a continued surge in housing costs, according to a new Zillow report. In February, the nation boasted 550 “million-dollar” cities where the median home value was north of seven figures, up from 491 a year ago, the analysis shows. California had the most cities with homes valued over $1 million with 210; of the 210, three were in the Bay Area (Atherton, Los Altos Hills, Hillsborough) and one was in SoCal (Hidden Hills).
